Anaheim Hills Wildfire Burns 800 Acres

Evacuations Ordered

A fire burning in the Cleveland National Forest has now forced the evacuation of an Anaheim Hills elementary school. Children are being taken to Canyon High School at 260 South Imperial in Anaheim Hills. Homes are also being evacuated in the area.

The fire broke out before dawn in a mountainous area between Orange and Riverside counties and was burning in rugged terrain in the Sierra Peak area, said Orange County Fire Authority Capt. Stephen Miller. By 9 a.m., it had charred about 800 acres.

A command post was established at Irvine Regional Park, Miller said. Fighting the blaze along with personnel from the OCFA were federal and state firefighters. Because of a Red Flag Warning in the Southland, many firefighters were pre-deployed in various areas.

Miller said firefighters were carrying out an aerial assault on the blaze.

The 460,000-acre Cleveland National Forest is the southern-most national forest in the state.

Fires are a natural part of the socal ecosystem. No one should expect these to stop ever.

This is true.

I just won't be buying a home there. That's all.

Exactly. That's called "being smart."

I'm just shocked at how many ecologists (who KNOW how regular fires will be) own houses in fire areas.
