Matthew Solarski reports:
What do you do when beef goes stale? If you're Jay-Z and Nas, you toss it out-- and cash in.

According to the New York Times, hip-hop's reigning monarch-mogul Jay-Z has brought age-old rival rhymeslinger Nas into his Def Jam Recordings fold. The surprise deal arrives three months after Nas joined Jay-Z onstage at a New Jersey concert, officially sending a near-decade's worth of beef out to pasture with one fraternal embrace.

The Times reports that the unique recording deal allows Nas to release his next two albums through Def Jam, which will split all profits (or losses, as the case may be) with Nas' longtime label Sony. Nas owes Def Jam two more albums after those two discs are released, while Sony retains the rights to a Nas greatest hits record, well past-due for the hip-hop veteran.

Nasir "Nas" Jones and Sean "Jay-Z" Carter have long peppered their rhymes with invectives toward one another, on cuts like Jay-Z's "Takeover" and "Super Ugly", and Nas's "Ether." Now "the savvy hustler" and "the brooding street poet", as the Times respectively casts them, will cease their quarreling and join forces. Apparently we all can just get along.

While no one from Jay-Z's camp would comment, we can assume Jigga was inclined to, you know, get. that. dirt off his shoulder.
