I wouldn't be surprised if the Image Forum traffic slowed down drastically.
who cares?

they just couldnt do something like that when the Bendis Board was being hosted by Image.... it would have been ridiculous......
Bill?

geez. thats sort of weird.
but a lot of boards have restrictions like that.
i'd be surprised to learn they had a lot of nonsense traffic over there anyways since the bendis board moved.

I must ask -- what is the point of an "On Topic" forum? From experience, people come to message boards with their opinions already in place, so it's not as though any discussion is likely to change someone's view of something. Aren't you better off, in the case of a company like Image, having a comfortable a relaxed online hangout?
who cares?

what if a discussion in a thread moves towards comparing a certain Image book to other Marvel or DC books? would that be considered off-topic?
it's a really silly policy, because you cant have intelligent, well developed conversations without looking at the whole picture, and i mean that in general, not just with comics....

you get enough stress and "on-topic" discussions at work.... is it really that bad to have a place to just come and let loose sometimes, while still having intelligent discussions? the last thing i need is to go to a forum and have to think 5 times before i post something because the thread police might delete my threads.....
the choice is really theirs, but their attitude strikes me as kind of stuck-up....

You also can't pimp your books there anymore... I like Cellar Door Publishing's approach better, they actually review and recommend "competitor's" books, to help contribute to the prosperity of the industry as a whole.
Pimping is good for the whole industry -- as I've said before, when anyone sells a comic, it makes it likelier that everyone will sell more comics.

Well, that's the end of the image boards. I'm guessing we may be getting some refugees shortly.

Heh, if they knew about the fun we get to have here...:grope:
And I think it deserves pointing out that when I joined this board, it was with little to no intention of discussing Bendis or his work -- I wasn't much of a Bendis fan when I joined. But even with all the off-topic nonsense, I've been aware of his many new projects, and have purchased his work more consistently than ever before. So, a bit of proof that you can have both.

all that forum rules like that make me want to do is stop reading image's books. image central was always a place for little guys to show their stuff off and a few small time writers / artists / colorists got image work from that exposure. kicking them out like that is kind of a dickish thing to do.

That's cool. I mostly joined to express my displeasure with Bendis for killing Gwen(although we cool now that Kitty's a regular in USM). But if I had known how much fun this place was, I would have joined long ago. :D

Sheesh, as much as I like comics I also DON'T want to talk about comics all the time. I like talking about other things with people who read comics - that's why I like it here. I can bring up random stuff with comic reading people and just be goofy; and along the way find some new friends and be part of a community. Plus, like with what Tibbitz is saying, I become aware of Bendis's new projects along the way plus new indie work I may not have known of otherwise. Narrowing down a message board to just one subject matter isn't just dickish it's also counter-productive.
It's sad Erik and the rest of the Image board doesn't see it that way.

Indeed. And aside from buying more of Bendis' stuff, I've also purchased a few comics by fellow boarders, that I never would have heard of if there were a no-pimping rule here.
Didn't Erik Larsen used to be cool?:grope:

A little off topic here, but can you do something about the jpg in your signature. The picture is 977px wide, and it's stretching the board past the boundaries of my screen. I'm assuming it's that way for at least half the board -- surely everyone's not set their resolution at 1280x960 or greater.

i assume they're not really trying to build one. at least, not on the image central board. it seems like they want to keep a place there just to post news and things about image books.
i dont think that rule applies to the other creator boards on there.

That's the impression I got. He sez "this board," not "these boards." Kinda makes sense on a board with so many subdivisions that you'd limit the all-purpose Image one to being a forum about Image. You can still go to NYC Mech or Small Gods and act a fool... just not the Image Central one...

it doesn't. From what I gather, they were tired of the first page of the Image Central board being 'littered' with posts about other companies books, so they made that change.
no big deal, really.

I want to come here to talk comics. Often, I can't find comics talk because of the off topic discussion. Might be alright for a person's board, but does a company want that?

If the other boards at Image are still allowed to be off-topic-y (at individual mods' discretion), I suppose it really isn't a big deal.

That's exactly is. It's only on the actual IMAGE CENTRAL boards where you can't "advertise" for other companies' books or pimp out other companies' material. Individual communities within the image boards don't really seem to mind it. I know Ivan Brandon at the NYC MECH forums actually tells those who run into problems on the IMAGE CENTRAL forum to post the threads in his forums. Ivan and Andy and those guys love comics -- not just Image stuff. The LUNAS also seem to encourage other information from outside companies (which makes sense since they are doing S-G: Origin at Marvel).
I think lots of folks were overreacting when Erik laid down the law with the new rules. Just a misunderstanding really. All they ask is that IMAGE CENTRAL remain, well, Image-centric. The other forums are for the other stuff.
And besides, it's not like they were asking people to take "ads" out of their signatures either. They just seemed offended by the hardcore pimping for pimping's sake.
