I might jump on. art looks stunning, story seems to pick up where bendito left off but a safe point where as not to miss much, I love the idea of the uber marvel lawyer (not she hulk) in jail the irony is awesome.
Great art

Is Matt Murdock going to jail? OMFG!!! Now the whole Bendis run has been completely RUINED for me! Thanks a bunch, Spoiler-head!

I don't have much to discuss but this sounds like a great beginning to your and Ed's run.

From the looks of things, this is going to be the smoothest transition in comic history. A huge shakeup in the book, for sure, but a great way to do it. The preview pages look great, and I'm trying to fit in my head how we are going to get from the end of 81 to that point. (Although, I just read a preview copy at the comic shop of 81, and wooboy, a very cool ride!)
I do love the way Bendis and Brubaker worked together on this to keep the story flowing. So many times in the past, the whole title took a jumpstart to get it going again at the end of some writer's tenure. Not so this time, and that is remarkable.
The similarity in tone of the art is good transitionally, too. Your style is definitely not Maleev, which I think is really a good thing (as much as I enjoyed Maleev's work), but the tone keeps in line with what's been going on in recent times. Before they announced who the new artist was, I was a little afraid we'd get something 180 out from how the art had been, and that is just so jarring in a title to me. (Witness the short breaking in Maleev's run when someone else did the White Tiger trial.)
I am ready to see that entire issue of 82 now. Too bad I have to wait another month and then some.

I know. Can you beleive it? Who would have guessed? At least Ed didn't give away the fact that Matt goes to the same doctor Kingpin went to and gets his sight back.
OOPS! Did I say that out loud?

The fact that we're all friends and we respect each other's abilities had a lot to do with it.

Well, Alex and I come from the same school of thought about art, so that helps. But yeah, we're different. My hope is that I can bring the best of Mazzucchelli and Maleev into the mix.

I have jpegs. And I am open to persuasion. Suitcases full of unmarked 10s and 20s are always welcome. PM me for my mailing address. :)

That's very apparent. Not always the case.

That's exactly what your stuff reminds me of. I've said that privately to a couple of people.

I've been looking forward to your and Ed's run as well. I've been a huge fan of the Bendis/Maleev era, so I was really hesitant when I learned they were leaving the title. Once I found out who was going to be taking their place, I knew that I had nothing to worry about.
I really like that everything seems to be flowing very smoothly from one team to the other and I agree with Darediva that your style will work well with what Maleev has done before you. One of my problems with some DD stories is that it looses that "pulp" feel that I think is essential to any good DD story. I thought that Maleev did an excellent job bringing some grit to the artwork for the book so losing that may have just driven me away from the book entirely. I've always thought that your art was great for that "pulp" style and after looking at all the preview pages thus far, I know that you will not disappoint! :)
A lot of the people I talked to when news of your run first broke referred to your work on "What if Karen Page Lived?" as their example of why you'd be great at DD. I think the art I've seen thus far from the ongoing is even better than what you did on What If? and surpasses any expectations that story might have created.
In short, it looks like it's going to be badass and I can't wait.

Michael, it looks fantastic! I've been eagerly anticpating this. Brubaker has made Captain America the best book being published today, and from the looks of those pages, he's got another winner on his hands.
Between you and Steve Epting, he's got the perfect artists to bring his stories of these characters to life. I'm expecting that he'll also have a great artist partner for his upcoming Uncanny X-Men.
Can't wait!

Hey Michael,
A bit belated but - Happy New Year!
Just been looking at your DD work from the Ed Brubaker interview and it looks fantastic.
I'm a big fan of Tommy Lee Edwards work too (cool website for anyone who is interested: www.tommyleeedwards.com) so with him on covers, the new DD is going to be a great package.
Roll on February!!!

One more thought - will we get to see some of your work on the covers in the future?

Thanks for the kind words, Jonathan. We'll see about the covers. I love Tommy's work, but I don't know what his plans are for how long he'll be on the book. He's certainly a better cover artist than I am, so as long as he's willing to do it, I'm not going to make any waves. :)

They had a few pages on Newsarama - here are the ones you haven't seen in black and white yet.

Yeah, I live in Grapevine, but we've never actually met. The last con I was at that you were at as well was Wizard World '04, but that was my first con and I was just getting into the artwork side of things at that point, so I didn't meet you then. I know Mark Hay, though, and have seen him at several shows locally and at his store where he feeds my art habit. I have a few of your pieces that I got through him and I also got on the list for one of your commissions.

Man, I didn't look closely enough at those preview pages on Newsarama. I didn't realize that the splash w/ Matt in his cell had him casting a Daredevil shadow. That's a very nice touch.

God, all those preview pages look awesome. As much as I loved Bendis and Maleev on DD, I can't wait to see you and Ed on it.
