Do they think people are nostalgic about the New Universe?

And I noticed that there wasn't an Untold Tale of Kickers, Inc.

Ellis is doing a new series based on it, so I guess they figured they'd cover the bases before that comes out.

Well...with Ellis doing the story then I'm going to have some faith in the idea.

But still, I have bad memories of the first go round. I bought every issue of every title. Brrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

I liked Star Brand, especially when they blew up Pittsburgh and instituted the Draft. That was a decent concept.

I can't wait! I LOVED Starbrand! So much so that I got the brand tattoo'd on as my first tattoo! I hope they don't fuck this up...I'm really looking forward to what Ellis has planned. Most of the New U sucked, but Justice was pretty good (had a crazy ass cool ending in the final issue) and Starbrand was good stuff.

Do you have a picture of the tattoo?

I shot this just now. I feel like a bit of a tool for posting it, but oh well :)

It's about a decade old now...I should have it touched up to define the lines.

No, that's nice. Do you get a lot of questions about it?

And does anyone know if Ellis redoing the New Universe or taking off from where they ended it?

I don't even remember how things ended...did much happen after The Draft?

He's doing his own thing. Taking the concept but in a new direction.

It's on my ankle, so no one typically sees it unless I show it to them or sometimes in the summer when I'm wearing sandals. When someone does ask about it, I usually just say "it's from a comic book." Most people that would ask know that I read comics, so they're usually ok with that simple answer. Those that actually know about comics sometimes dig it...I've gotten a few great reactions and a few "why the hell would you get that" reactions, but fuck 'em, I like it :)

From what I've heard, Ellis wanted a universe to play in and they handed him the New Universe. All second hand info, but I think I heard that he's going to redo it but with some amount of faithfulness to the original. I could be wrong though.

I didn't read much after the whole Pitt thing, so I don't know a lot about The Draft. I have the issues around here somewhere, but I don't know if I've ever even read them.

I did like reading the Quasar issues a few years back which dealt with the New U and the recent Exiles stuff and I'm really looking forward to seeing what Ellis does.

I didn't even know they had revisted it since it's original run.

The more I think about it the more intrigued I am over what Ellis will do.

Yeah, I can't wait to see what happens.

As for other appearances, just a quick Google search brought up this:

Starbrand#1-6 (October, 1986 - March, 1987)
Starbrand#7-19 (May, 1987 - May, 1989) - bi-monthly
Starbrand Annual#1 (1987)
The Pitt (March, 1988)
The War#3-4 (August, 1989 - ??, 1990)
Quasar#31 (February, 1992)
Quasar#33-34 (April-May, 1992)
Quasar#36-57 (July, 1992 - April, 1994)
Starblast#1-4 (January-April, 1994)

It's not very current since it doesn't include the recent Exiles stuff, so I don't know if anything happened between 1994 and that arc, but that's what I found.

Actually, a little more searching brought up a decent quickie rundown on Wikipedia:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_Brand

As well as one about the New Universe in general:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Universe

At that link, in the "future" section, they have this:

"Warren Ellis will release a new series in the Summer of 2006 with the working title of newuniversal. Very few details have been revealed, but Ellis promises to build a vastly different New Universe experience by completely forgoing the continuity of the original and writing his own world. The series was equated to Ellis' creation of the Authority from Wildstorm's Stormwatch. newuniversal is predicted to come with a T+ rating.

In the month preceeding the ongoing series will be several one-shot books set in the original (Pre-Pitt) continuity. These "Untold Tales of the New Universe" will include Star Brand, Nightmask, Justice, Psi-Force, and D.P.7. There will also be backup stories in regular Marvel Universe books featuring Mark Hazzard: Merc, Spitfire and the Troubleshooters, and Kickers, Inc."

Oh yeah, and from CBR, here's how you can get your Kickers, Inc. fix :)

There will be two other "Untold Tales of the New Universe back up stories, specifically a story featuring the New Universe's armored exoskeleton clad troubleshooter, "Spitfire" appears in March's "Amazing Fantasy" #19 (featuring art by Marshall Rogers). Jeff Parker and Juan Santacruz tell a lost tale of "Kickers Inc.", the football stars turned paranormal investigators, in February's "New Avengers #16.
