Kabuki fans might enjoy the work of author Mark Z. Danielewski, whose stunning first novel "House of Leaves" came out (four? five?) years ago. It's a stunning book, one you experience rather than read. I know Mack said in a letters column for "The Alchemy" that he'd enjoyed the book - Poe read Kabuki on stage? That's amazing, I wish I'd been at that concert - and that it was comparable with his own work, that Danielewski was doing in prose what Mack was doing in comics. I tend to agree.

He has a new novel coming out this September (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0375421769/104-8043030-3550311), "Only Revolutions." Nothing's known about it, except that he incorporated stories from his fans in the writing process (http://www.houseofleaves.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=4062). It's going to be to fascinating reading, I'm sure.

Hmmm...it took him about 10 years to do House of Leaves...and he's got a new one coming out 5 years later?
He's rushing- and I believe this book will suffer for it.

(ha, kidding...)

LOVED House of Leaves...can't wait to see this next one. Seriously, this guy writes books like Kubrick made movies...a long time between, but worth the wait.

"You'll finish and that will be that, until a moment will come, maybe in a month, maybe a year, maybe even several years. You'll be sick or feeling troubled or deeply in love or quietly uncertain or even content for the first time in your life. It won't matter. Out of the blue, beyond any cause you can trace, you'll suddenly realize things are not how you perceived them to be at all. For some reason, you will no longer be the person you believed you once were. You'll detect slow and subtle shifts going on all around you, more importantly shifts in you. Worse, you'll realize its always been shifting, like a shimmer of sorts, a vast shimmer, only dark like a room. But you won't understand why or how. You'll have forgotten what granted you this awareness in the first place."

You know it's funny, I don't know anyone who hasn't made that joke?

Z. talks about "Only Revolutions," as well as the small book that's not currently available in the US, "The Fifty Year Sword," in this interview (http://www.the-ledge.com/HTML/conversation.php?ID=45&lan=uk).
