I'd love some epic music suggestions. No matter if it's orchestral, rock or electronic but I would love some good stuff to check out that is good to work to. The kinda stuff that rolls and builds with big sounds and grand arrangements.

Anything?

Three Days Grace gets a lot of playtime in my stereo while I'm painting, as well as anything by System of a Down, but I'm not quite sure if that's the kind of stuff you're looking for. I used to listen to the soundtrack to the movie “Brave Heart” quite a bit, but I've listened to it so many times that's it's lost its magic with me.

The accessible classics, big bangs all:

Wagner's Die Valkure
Beethoven's 9th
Bizet's Carmen
Orff's Carmina Burana
Ravel's Bolero

You've heard these all, but have you ever listened to them?

I'm partial to Peter Gabriel. Some good theatrical, epic stuff from him. Doesn't Tams like him? I thought she did. She could suggest.

I'm probably way too old school for you...

Also you might want to check out the latest CD from the band Disturbed, called "10,000 Fists". It definitely has some powerful stuff in it.

I actually have The Crow OST, the first Escaflowne soundtrack (from the series) and Adi got me the entire Cowboy Bebop soundtrack set for Christmas a year ago! He might well like the Gladiator soundtrack.

Brett, I don't know nearly enough about Peter Gabriel, but I think So was definitely one of the best albums of the 20th Century.

I just saw this group last night:
http://www.thecountdown.net

Really entertaining electro-punk husband and wife duo. Tons of energy. One of the best live performances I've seen in a long time. I was about to leave the club when they came on and I ended up planting myself right next to the speakers up front. They both play guitar (well) and play to these slamming recorded backing tracks. Check them out.

Tams:
yeah , great album that. I love when he gets all angry like Digging in the Dirt. I also like Talk to Me. You guys might like his 1980 solo album, the one with the melty face (one of three self-titled albums). Lots of good creepy paranoia on it. A pure Gabriel classic. I also like the energy on much of his recent album "Up".

The soundtrack to Conan the Barbarian by Basil Pousidouris, if you can still find it. It's an amazing piece of music, and it's gotten me more than one speeding ticket in my car.

First post so perhaps a bit cheeky to suggest music given I don't know anyones taste.
For epic metal I'd suggest a Finnish band called Nightwish. Their last album Once has some great songs if the mixture of metal guitars, orchestral arrangements and a female singer appeals.

Other obvious choices for epic rock are the prog bands form the 70's Yes, Genesis, ELP etc though there are some modern purveyors who also make decent records. Spocks Beard album V , the Dream Theater album A Change of Season and the Transatlantic album SMTPe feature some well crafted progressive rock.

Ha!! Adi loves the music from Conan (and naturally the film itself, too).

May I suggest the band Madrugada?

They are rather good, worth a listen. Often epic in their sound.
