Me and my brother got a new I-pod video today.......

It was all well and good, until my brothers I-pod froze whilst it was connected to my computer.

I'm trying to do mine now, and it got further then my brothers before the I-pod started asying "do not disconnect". Apparently this should last for 3 hours.

It's been doing it for 8 now.

What should I do? It still says do not disconnect, but how much longer should I keep it connected?

in itunes, you can right click on the ipod and click 'eject ipod.'

or in your system tray there should be a usb device thing there, click on safely remove usb device.

i don't i've ever disconnected it when it said "you can now disconnect" or whatever. it says "do not disconnect" pretty much every time i take it out.

but thats probably bad advice.

Richt when I click eject the i-pod unfreezes and works.

But I can't add any files to it.

I am so confused.

Damn my fear of technology!

the ipod isn't going to work when it's connected to the computer. when it's connected it you do everything in itunes, or through my computer, where it shows up as an external drive.

when you eject it, you're basically telling the computer not to recognize it until you plug it in again later.

I can't send anything to my i-pod though.

FOr example, I selected the song I wanted, clicked "send to My I-pod" and then waited while the loading icon appeared in the top right.

And then it's not there when I disconnecxt my i-pod.

Are you using Mac or PC?

I am using a PC, and first of all you have to install all the software that comes with the iPod. Once you've done that, then you plug it in, and it should say "Do Not Disconnect" for about 5-10 minutes, while it syncs everything from your iTunes to your iPod. Then it will say "OK to Disconnect".

If you've installed the software, and that isn't happenning, then something is wrong, and you gotta call Apple.

Their tech support is really really good, so you'll have no problem. And you get one free tech call (unless you have an AppleCare tech support package), so you're covered for free.

Try rebooting the ipod hold down "menu" and then center "select button". Hold them both down until you see the apple logo.

Yet it's not under music on my ipod.

Any ideas?

you have to put the music on through itunes. i think that might be your problem, but i'm not sure.

that's a bit complicated...

there are some good links around.

apple should be shot for not having conversion to a compatible format built in to itunes.
