Word around here is that St. Louis is going to be insane this year with New Orleans being pretty much shut-down. We have what's considered the second largest MG celebration in the U.S. They're preparing for Bourbon Street type numbers. :surrend:

that would be impressive. I went to my first st louis gras last year and it was fun, though it's hard to compete with the sheer revelry and chaos of new orleans. I plan on coming back down though, maybe I'll run into you somewheres.

Austin has a pretty large Mardi Gras too, alot of fun. Havn't been to it in a few years though, the ration of creepy guy crowds pushing and shoving is very high here.

FAKE ASS MARDI GRAS!

New Orleans is having Mardi Gras this year. It's the only city in America that really knows what it's doing for Mardi Gras.

Dude, this isn't a bigger dick contest. People get drunk and chicks show their tits, it isn't a secret on how it's done.

If that's what you think Mardi Gras is about then I guess your version could happen anywhere in the country. I've heard Las Vegas and Baton Rouge claim to have the 2nd biggest Mardi Gras. I tend to believe Baton Rouge even though theirs is wack. I'm sure it's fun but it's not the real thing. Sorry.

For all I know, you put that in the entry yourself. :p

Sorry.I have heard that they have a big Mardi Gras in San Luis Obispo these days (I hope that Shane has not confused that for St. Luis).

They have some kind of big canival at UCLA that they call "Mardi Gras" I beleive that is held in October though.

Mobile has always claimed to be the first place in the US to celebrate Mardi Gras... The truth of this claim is better left to the debate of people with more free time than I...

I'd love to check out the St Louis Mardi Gras one day- it doesn't look bad. But this year I'm going back to New Orleans for the 150th Mardi Gras. What's St. Louis on, their fifth? I'd rather see the celebration of the city I love and the only American city that can really do it than see the white-bread version.

Anyone watch Mr. Show? This reminds me of Rap: The Musical- "all the fun of rap without all that rap!"

My first trip back to the NO will be 01/13, to see G. Love at the House of Blues...

Awesome. I'm flying into Denver (where I left my car, while I'm in Portland) and then I'm driving back to New Orleans in Jan.

If Mobile's is the 2nd largest, there's a huge dropoff after #1... Mardi Gras is pretty tame over here compared to New Orleans.

granted I haven't been to a Mobile parade in 7-8 years since I moved from there, but it was kicking pretty good.

But we aren't comparing tameness are we? Cuz that's a no brainer. :D By duration and numbers I'm thinking Mobile would be #2 since it goes the full 'seasaon" and most other cities don't.

I'm just thinking in terms of poorly-crafted floats, short parades and small crowds. And the annoying religious people have a fucking stage set up downtown every year, trying to get people to look at their weird teenagers putting strange performance art to Project 86 songs instead of the parades. At leas the religious nuts in New Orleans are funny...
