I've heard a lot of good things about David's Hulk. I was thinking about getting the first Peter David Hulk Visionaries trade which covers 331-339 of Incredible Hulk. I'm placing an amazon order and am going back and forth between this or the Batman: Long Haloween trade.

I read this book a couple of weeks ago, and was really not all that impressed. I have liked Davids' Star Trek novels that I have read. I have never been much of a Hulk fan, so I guess maybe this character truely is not for me. I did feel that things started to get interesting in the last couple of issues of the trade, and would pick up the second volume if I found it at the library.

Doesn't really get good til 377

377-425 are fantastic
then it gets a little weird, then gets good again after 440 or so.

I had heard similar review. I guess they've got a way to go with these visionaries trades before it gets to the good stuff. I read the last year and a half of his first run and it was pretty good, so I was looking to for more of the same.

Damn, must have missed it or it sold out at the shop. Have to order it, then.

PAD's run was great, but it had a few lame stories. Here's one of PAD's classics:

Possibly the greatest one-shot Marvel Comic of the 90's. I think I've read and reread that issue a hundred times. Make sure you pick up Future imperfect which takes place directly before.

Hell yes. Future Imperfect is spectacular.

If you haven't ordered it already go for Long Halloween. I bought the first two volumes of Peter David's stuff, but it didn't do much for me.

Honestly, I purchased a lot containing most of PAD's back issues on eBay a few years ago and read them, and I found I liked the book much more with each passing issue. The "Joe Fixit" era from circa #340-377 or thereabouts was interesting, but not my favorite era. However, right around #370 or so the book really starts humming, and it soon kicks into my favorite Hulk era of all time, the Pantheon era from #377 to 425. Then it kinda meanders a bit, but makes a comeback during the last year or so of PAD's run, with what I'd describe as the single most satisfying ending to any creator's run on a given title ever.

I can understand your reluctance, though...all I can say is as with most writers who do work for hire, it takes a bit to find their voice and style, but when they do, it's classic stuff. :)

I have all of that in issue form and by god does it rule

It builds and eventually gets to the awesome after a few miss fires.

I defintily liked it better than Long Halloween though
