View Full Version : Tattooing your significant other´s name

A friend of mine asked me to design him something to cover up a tatto he got in an arm with her now ex-girlfriend´s name on it. That got me thinking and so:

1) Why would anyone tattoo anyone else´s name? Especially when you´re 25 and went through more than 7 relationships in less than 3 years

Suppose you get the tattoo

2) How would you feel if you have to break up with that person?

3) How would you feel if that other person breakes up with you?

1--uh dunno.
2--I think I'd be less likely to break up with them...
3--like crap.

Yikes. If you're going to do something inspired by your s/o, then at least do something generic like, "Love of My Life" or "Soulmate."

glitch in your programming today, love?!?!?

and...there is no way on freaking earth that i would ever tattoo someone else's damned name on my body.

i can see using a pictorial symbol of some kind - but a name? never.

I could see tattooing a dead person's name on you, like your dead father or someone really important. Because, let's be honest, they are not going anywhere.

Aren't letters, essentially, just a different type of pictorial symbol? ;-)

I'm just giving you shit. I totally agree with you.

I've always wanted a tatoo. Could never find anything I liked well enough. So I got my nips pierced instead.

These sorts of tatoos should be designed so that the cover-up is pre-planned. That way, you know what to do when your relationship crumbles.

this makes me wonder if I should tattoo my cat's symbol I created for him on my body somewhere.

I need a life. I know.

Is this a Prince-like symbol? Cause I'm sort of hoping you use it to refer to him instead of his chosen name....

Go get the tatto. Ask yourself: Is there any chance your relation with him will end?

it's a cat's paw print and there is a big X (as in Xander) going across the palm part of the paw print.

I sign his symbol with some of my art if I feel that he's helped me someway... like sitting in my lap while I draw and stuff or swipe at the pencil and make me mess up.

I've never known a more pure and unconditional love than the one I have for Xander, and the one I had for my cat who's passed away, Louise.

I have a tattoo on my inner left forearm that says DTD-KRW

My initials (dtd) and my wife's (krw) and people ALWAYS ask "what if you divorce" and my reply every single time is: Then it's a time in my life I don't want to forget. Fondly or as a reminder/warning.

the only names i would ever tattoo on my body (of living people) would be the names of my kids, as that is usually a sort of unconditional love. outside of that, dead friends or family members, maybe.

or maybe someday i'll just cover my body with tattoos of the names of famous dead people..

GEORGE WASHINGTON!!
HUNTER S. THOMPSON!!
CHRISTOPHER REEVE!!
BEN FRANKLIN!!
JACK KIRBY!!!

I have a few tattoos, and i only have 2 rules:
1- nothing tooo satanic
2- no names, unless its your kids or your dogs

...and thats the way it should be

1) Why would anyone tattoo anyone else´s name? Especially when you´re 25 and went through more than 7 relationships in less than 3 years

Suppose you get the tattoo

2) How would you feel if you have to break up with that person?

3) How would you feel if that other person breakes up with you?
1) Because they stoopid.
2) I'd feel pity.
3) Nasty glee that she's stuck with my name.

What do you think about a "Your Name" tattoo? It's oh so deliciously generic. :)
