I love these little things. I recieved a whole bunch of them in the mail today. If only you could see the vicious battles that rage on my computer desk as I sit here in boredom, thanks to Marvel Minimates.

Do they sell the DC Minimates without the stupid LEGO-esque playsets? Because... I don't really want those. But I'd love a lil' Batman.

Commercially we don't always have the diversity of American products.
All I've ever seen to buy outside of a comic store is the DC playsets, and I think I saw the mini-vehicle ones advertised once.

I bought a Batmobile to get Batman and Robin. :p
The Batman in that one looked better than the one that came with a Joker, so I got that, even though I wanted Batman and Joker more.

They need to hurry up and make a Sentry figure so I can complete the New Avengers. Annnnnd they need to hurry up and make Beast and Gambit.

...and the Runaways.

...and She-Hulk.

...and Vision.

...and Hawkeye.

...and a special five inches tall Giantman!

That would be awesome!
Blazing Skull! Union Jack! Cap'n US Agent! Namor in the wetsuit!

That'd be great.
Make it happen!

Wetsuit? Are you talking about his leather getup?

Their mission is to make Namor sounds SO gay isn't it? It's impossible to talk about his get-up without that impression!!!

Wetsuit? Are you talking about his leather getup? You mean the black/blue/green one, with the big golden Spidey-wings?

I'm talking about what he wore in New Invaders.
It's sort of a wet suity thing. Or at least, I think it is.

I like it a lot more than the shoulder paddy, golden wingy thing.

I don't read New Invaders. So I have no idea what you're talking about.

All I know of what Namor wears is his green speedo and his Leather thing he was wearing in New Avengers.

Scottie

I think the New Avengers thing is what we're talking about... but I doubt it's leather. Leather and water generally don't mix well.

I foresee them making speedo-Namor a regular figure with wetsuit-Namor being a variant.

Diamond Select Toys new Minimate Max line features unarticulated resin statues of some of the most well known characters in the Marvel Universe. Who better to be included in this line, but Galactus! This 8" unarticulated resin statue will tower over your regular sized minimates like the devourer of worlds should. Look for it to be available in 2006! Wolverine and Spider-Man will also be part of the Max line.

I foresee them making speedo-Namor a regular figure with wetsuit-Namor being a variant.I don't read New Avengers, but if memory serves, it was his black and gold thing. It's nice enough, but I'm just not as big a fan of it.

The wetsuit is nice and understated.
Short lived though, too. I can't imagine them bothering with it in minimate form. The black (sometimes blue, sometimes green) suit with the gold wings would probably be more likely.

... if they can do the gold wing things under his armpits.
Can they do stuff like that with a minimate? They're pretty crafty little rascals!

Still didn't work... but I looked it up myself. It looks nice, I like how its still minimate shaped. But... it being unarticulated makes me really "meh" about it.

Does anyone know what the next two waves of minimates are going to be?

OMG!!! You don't read New Avengers? Why?Well, I don't read much of anything right now because I don't have the money.

But I grabbed an issue or two of New Avengers, and it just didn't grab me.
Personally I find it to have a lot of the things I don't like about Bendis' writing. That... light and fluffy quality, that somehow plods along in a forward direction, even though it seems to be moving sideways.

I don't mind the line-up, but the read just isn't what I want. :?

As far as team stories go I liked New Invaders. It was something a little bit different, and a little more... militant in a super heroey kinda way.
JSA is good for nostalgia, and some good stories.
JLA is interesting with all the tensions left over from Infinite Crisis.
And the Classified JLA book made it onto the closest thing I can have to a pull list, as a person who buys sporadically.

I probably would if the Ronin reveal wasn't such a disappointment.
I was debating about having a look at the Sentry arc. That sounded interesting, but... I always get sucked in by nice concepts, with execution that I don't enjoy.

Like Ultimate Venom, and then Ultimate Carnage, and other.

I liked New Invaders a lot. It's a shame you and I were the only people buying it.Yeah, it was great! There are one or two other fans around the place, and most people who were convinced to buy the trade were pleasantly surprised, as far as I know.

It got a bum wrap.
Too bad Marvel doesn't really do a lot of promotion for the smaller books.

I  Minimates too. I have far too few for how much like them. I have quite a few duplicates of characters like the hulk for customs but I have missed out on a lot of characters, just not the easiest things for me to get.
I really like my Inbetweener, Deena and walker, Owl, mole man, and hulk playing the piano.

Yeah, they can be quite expensive.

I buy the Star Wars in a box, and resell the remainder in order to make up some of the cost. And if you get a couple chase figures, you can basically get your figures for free.

As for the rest, finding deals on eBay or good bargains from users on Kubrickworld.com is how I got them.

Thanks!

I go in on a case of 4 boxes with a guy who gets them at RoBBy.jp. I actually haven't purchased a whole case myself...I just get a box from his case always.

The site is all in Japanese, but if you just contact them asking for what you want, they will get back to you in English relatively quickly. And they are very reliable.

What I like about it is that it is a challenge. You can't just go to a store and pick them up. You have to track them down, make contacts in the hobby.

I come from a background in vintage Star Wars collecting, so I am used to the challenge of the hunt.

My complaint about the Minimates is that they're too flimsy. I like the larger size that Art Asylum uses for their old Star Trek line.

I also wish they were better at scale. The Bruce Banner minimate is bigger than the Hulk Minimate because of the lab coat. It would be a lot cooler if Hulk were made in the scale of the larger (Star Trek) scale.

They're getting better at this whole scale thing though... the two newer Thing figures have big thick chest pieces so they don't look as skinny as the all the other ones. I figured they'll put out a better sized Hulk figure one of these days.
