I can see America's second most dangerous city from my girlfriend's window :)
Any time we go to downtown Detroit, even at night, we're fine.

You're lucky. I've hade some close calls.
Troy makes me kind of nervous, and they're definitely right about Flint. Yikes.

these lists are never surprising... it all comes down to population, right?

The reason why Newark isn't on the list is because you can walk around there during the day. You cannot walk around Camden any time of day.

Word. I grew up in Amherst. We were hardcore yo! We wore our topsiders unlaced and shit.
And now I live in Richmond. Oh, the humanity.

It's funny that the number 6 safest town (Troy) is located between the number 2 (Detroit) and number 4 (Flint) most dangerous towns.

i'm actually surprised tacoma didn't make this list, normally we're pretty high up with crime per capita (especially with people shooting up our malls and what not)

Yes. I understand it's anecdotal (me) vs. statistical (the list) but I've seen some things in Troy.

Those cities are not on the list because there are some extremely well-off sections of them. NYC's upper east side, or the Wall Street area are very nice areas. Camden and the like have no nice areas.

live just south of ATL.
It really ain't that bad. I mean, there are parts- the west end of North Avenue, for one, that are pretty shitty and run down but even THOSE places are being built up. Crime is lessening. Things are looking better.

Salt Lake is a more Liberal city, but I would expect Provo to be considered the safest, blandest, city on Earth.

It was founded by Mormons, it's not owned by them. There are no 'Mormon only' signs at the City limits :-?
Salt Lake City is like any other large American city; high crime rates, unemployement, slums, ect. The majority of the population is not Mormon.
Go to a small town outside Salt Lake City and you will find very clean safe place though. Mormon communities are very 'peaceful'.
I'm surprised Portland didn't make the safe list.
I Thought Richmond Would Be Higher.
Wayno.
Richmond shouldn't even be on the list.
