I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Matt Wagner is always good for a well-done Batman story.
I thought the coloring was a little stale, but I understand it was for ambience. Will definitely be picking up the next issue.
What'd you guys think?

I liked it, it has the classic Batman vibe, Hugo Strange is always an interesting villain, it reminds a bit of Englehart's Strange story, which was in the Strange apparitions thread

Loved it.
But I could have sworn that it was about the Fall of the Gangster and the Rise of the Freak.
Could have sworn.
Gave a 10/10.

It seemed like a very solid intro issue to me.

What'd you guys think?I want to own in trade form and enjoy in one whole story because it is expensive.

Isn't it? It's just the first issue of 12, I'd give it time.

I remember reading that somewhere, but then when I saw that...
Strange had genetic engineered "monster men" in his basement, that's what I thought it was about.

I thought it was just the rise of the strange threats against Batman, not any villians in particular. If you want a rise of freaks, read Dark Victory. That was pitch perfect, I see no need to retread that.

Waiting for the trade, but I love Wagner so much that I will pick it up if it comes out in hardcover.
Now he just needs to finish the 3rd volume of MAGE

Amen to that, brother.

I've been trying to cut down on the mini-series that I buy, but I'm really looking forward to picking up the trades of the entire series once it's finished. Wagner had proofs of the first three issues at Baltimoe, I flipped through them and they looked great. Fantastic storyteller.

I've already read it. But I'm always open to more versions of the same basic story.

Englehart's Hugo Strange story was also a re-tread of the original 1930's story this one is based upon.
