I have The Alchemy #5 (yay) waiting to be devoured, so I promise to post my feedback once it's properly digested. :)

Meanwhile, a comic-related story for those who may be interested...

On Thursday I attended DesignThinkers, a graphic design conference here in Toronto and was thrilled to have the chance to see Chip Kidd speak. Kidd, a graphic designer known mostly for his extensive experience in book design, also designed covers for comics like Sin City, Batman and Superman.

He talked about redesigning the "Superman" wordmark for the upcoming All-Star issue - a neat slanted 2-D version, similar in style to his workmark design for "Batman & Robin, The Boy Wonder #1".

Anyway, he was a really funny guy, and talked about how pumped he was to see the action-filled cover art for the Superman All-Star issue, only to recieve an illustration of Superman lazily sitting on a cloud. See sample at http://www.dccomics.com/comics/?cm=4400 (http://www.dccomics.com/comics/?cm=4400)

He said he thought it looked like Superman was starring in a movie, just sitting on a little cloud waiting for the Director to tell him when he should spring into action, while below in Metropolis, crime takes over and the poor people wonder what happened to their hero.

What were they thinking?
