While I've railed on huge crossovers in the past, I admit some interest in this one. Can't really say why, but I'm thinking about getting it. What should I know prior to reading it. I already know who dies in it, etc., so don't worry about spoilers, for me anyway. I'm just not to up on the whole Earth-2, Earth-X thing. Do the three trades called Crisis on Multiple Earths have anything to do with this? Should I read them first? Thanks.

If you can find something called History of the DC Universe, that is supposed to be a good primer.

Is it a comic-sized thing, or a book, or a tpb? How much would I have to spend on it?

Actually Crisis on Multiple Earths are the stories from the 60's and 70's that came before Crisis on Infinite Earths.

The History of the DC Universe was supposed to be issues 11 and 12 of Crisis on Infinite Earths but Wolfman and Perez had so much to incorporate into the story that that became it's own entity.

I would say the best resource available was Who's Who that D.C. put out with all the characters. This is hard to find because they never developed it into a trade but you can find a D.C. comics encyclopedia at Barnes and Noble that would help with the characters that are in it. Also get this month's Wizard it has behind the scenes info that could be useful too.

Yeah, COME is a compilation of the original alternate Earth reality-crossing stories. I bought the first one and wasnt all that impressed. I DO dig COIE though.

Yeah my favorite part is in the third one where Both Earth 1 and Earth 2 Robins are hanging out and Earth 1 Robin's costume gets shredded. Earth 2 Robin gives him a new one and asks what he thinks. His response? "Say, that ain't half bad." But the way it is written it looks more like "Gay!" Because of the shape of the "S".

That paragraph above is why the multiverse was so confusing.

If I were writing inthe DC multiverse, Robin and Robin would get it on right after that scene.

I picked up History of the DC Universe at San Diego without realizing I was going to need it later...it's actually pretty well designed as a lead in for IC...even if that wasn't the intent
