Ok, so who else is in love with this man's artwork? Mike got me into his stuff late last year. Friggin awesome work really. I can't wait to visit the museum in Pennsylvania....probably not this year though, as they will be closed when I go up in November.

I've loved Frazetta's artwork ever since I saw some Tarzan pencil illustrations of his. His Conan is still the definitive Conan influencing everybody's work afterward. Anytime I see a Conan that goes a bit away from the Frazetta version it just doesn't look right.

I was shocked at how many young people dont know about Franks work. He's one of my favorite artists period.

Love? I don't think I'm ready for that kind of commitment. I mean, it's great work, but-- Would it be all right if I just liked the artwork... a lot?

I'd love to go up there as well.
Cool thing is my aunt lives about a half hour 45 minutes away from it.

Tom, a good sample thing for you might be to lightbox a Frazetta piece and ink it- see how you would interpret the paints into linework!

If you´re Frazetta fans then you should check out the documentary Frazetta - Painting with Fire. I know the guy who directed it. They even made Frazetta´s Conan move;) More info and a trailer can be found here www.cinemachine.net

Dude how can you be shocked? lol Outta site is outta mind man, and only true art hounds'll go back and look at the masters. It is like that with anything...I was just talking with people who had no idea that the character of Blue Beetle wasn't always at DC. They didn't know there was a Silver Age character of the same name too.
If this stuff, no matter how good, isn't in Wizard or on the stands...people ain't gonna know and that is just a damn shame. I coulda swore I saw that Death Dealer image in the Art Museum here once.

I have the DVD--it is really good stuff. The only problem that I had with it was when they did the weird backlighting of his paintings or animated them slightly. His work doesn't need these kinds of tricks. I found them rather irritating.

Frazetta isn't just a fantasy illustrator. He did quite a bit of comic strip work including a brilliant run on Lil' Abner. He also drew what is held up as possibly the greatest comic cover ever on Weird Science Fantasy #29. His comic work is great.

meh, Krigstein was a much better artist. Or Feldstein, or Wood or Johny Craig.
I know I'm gonna be lambasted for this but the paintings here are really mediocre
must be the cultural gap between us. I guess we tend to look for more expression and emotion. Showing off your technicity went away with Picasso and Braque.
