What is the legal precedent regarding someone broadcasting private email correspondence online?

I'm in the middle of a row with someone who has in the past and now threatens to publish online private correspondence betwen myself and them. Even after repeated requests that he doesn't do so. I've even gone to the trouble of labeling such emails "PERSONAL AND CONFIDENTIAL" just to cover my ass.

My question is: after my repeated prohibition that this person not broadcast my private emails, what legal recourse do I have if he does?

This guy's really getting up my nose, and I've just about had it. Someone, help, please.

it's my understanding that once you send an email, it is no longer private, it belongs to the person you sent it to. The only place where this is exempt I believe is corporate confidential emails where the sender and recipient both are agents of the company.

A good rule of thumb is... Don't ever send or post anything you wouldn't want posted on the front page of the Newspaper, because if you ever become famous, it will probably end up there. Keep the ballbags off the internet.

Once you've sent it, you pretty much have no control over it. I'd suggest that you shouldn't write anything that you'd be ashamed of, regardless.

I learned the hard way that nothing is sacred. And don't think I'm talking about the Princess Mulan affair, either. An ex of mine once sent our e-mail conversations where we talked a little trash about some of my friends(mostly due to her trashing them and me not wanting a fight) to all those friends to get even with me for dumping her skank-ho ass.

That was me and Techno, too. You don't want details.
