Moneypenny and Q Axed from 'Casino Royale'
Producers of the forthcoming James Bond movie Casino Royale have axed the legendary Miss Moneypenny character. Moneypenny, who has waved the suave super-spy off on some of his most perilous missions, been written out of the new film because she only fleetingly appears in Ian Fleming's original novel. Gadget-inventor Q, last played by John Cleese will also be absent from the new film - in which British actor Daniel Craig will play 007 for the first time. The news is the biggest indication the new film will deviate substantially from the spirit of previous Bond adventures. Co-producer Michael G. Wilson confirms, "Neither Miss Moneypenny nor Q will appear. Neither of them are in the book. The film will update the novel but stick very closely to the storyline."

Great Bond, an actual real-life screenwriter, the guy who directed the best (i.e. watchable more than once) of the Brosnan movies, and an actual storyline based on a kick-ass book (which, I'm sure, will be fucked with a bit, but there's no crazy-bomb!).
I'm actually really sold.

I was more impressed before I clicked.

Agreed...although a part of me still would have liked to have seen what Tarantino would have done with it, had they given it to him...

good. I think they had the right idea with the directtion they tried with Dalton, but it failed , diue to poor scripts that still had schlocky Moore-like moments.
They should shoot for the "From Russia With Love" feel, the last film before the gadgets took over.

I love Tarantino. But I have no desire to see the inevitable scene of 007 playing the "Welcome Back Kotter" board game.

He didn't write it, he just gave it a polish. And they say you can't polish a turd :)

Bah. Can't say I really care about this new or a new Bond movie. I haven't really cared for the character since I was 18.

No Bond for me, I've been Bourne again.

Obviously you've never seen every episode of Walker, Texas Ranger. Alone, a single episode is silly, but together the entire eight-year run creates an incredibly deep and moving experience... for me to poop on!

Yeah, but the second Bourne movie sucked. Are 50 percent of the Bond movies bad...? Maybe, maybe not...

So now there will be TWO versions of Casino Royale that nobody enjoys starring a dude who only gets to play Bond for one film.

And when you die from fake enjoyment, I wil be sad, and will craft a decorative wreath from dried flowers and ribbons, and place it by your grave. And then I'm going to spraypaint "Lazenby 4EVER" on your tombstone.

You could probably afford Lazenby himself to sit on his grave :)
I think the bulk of the Bond films lacked any character development and actual drama, although I thought Bronson was fantastic as Bond, probably the best since Connery. The films were mostly written around stunts and effects. I suppose it is what it is, but really, the films don't HAVE to be that shallow.
Hopefully they'll go in the direction of strong writing.

"From Russia With Love" and "Goldfinger" are my two favorites, and I thought offered the most for the character. I would like to see them get back to the original spy thriller flavor, and less of the spectacle. But, I know that will never happen.

It occurs to me that I haven't really LIKED a Bond movie that didn't have Connery in it, except for "A View To A Kill".
