View Full Version : A great Elseworlds idea

After reading Marv Wolfman's idea as a way to bring Barry Allen back from the dead after Crisis on Infinite Earths...I always thought that DC should do an Elseworlds story where Barry Allen got pulled out of the time stream during his run, and then was killed by a rogue. The story would be what effects on the DCU if Barry never destroyed the Anti-Monitor's cannon.

What do you all think?

It'd be good, but it'd be a bitch to write.

I think it would be a book with a lot of white pages ;-)

If Barry didn't do what he did then everything would have gone south real fast, right? Or maybe someone else would have come up with something.

That was my thinking that someone would have had to step-up and do something...Wally, Jay, Superman?? Who could have done it, and what effect would their death have on what followed.

Basically it was that since Barry was running back thru time, you could have plucked him out of the time stream. There was also the idea that at some point he would be pulled back into the time stream to finish the run to destroy the cannon.

Mark Waid did that story in his second run on THE FLASH.

His second run wasn't that hot, and this story was no exception.

It'd be great if Superman died, and then the DC universe were rebooted without him. That'd be bizarre, and fantastic!

I guess you'd have a lot of shuffling to go through, but I'm sure eventually SOMEONE would fuck shit up. Like, just off the top of my head, in a world without Superman, what happens to Doomsday?

THE DEATH OF MARTIAN MANHUNTER

And then Martian Manhunter Blue and Red, after the mighty resurrection! With hair! :D

Probably would have been blue and yellow since they are the primary colors used to make green.

... in this world gone mad, I'd like to think dead would be dead.
Martian Manhunter, whenever it happens, has to die in absolute heroic tragedy. It just has to be that way. Preferably involving fire, but nothing piss lame.

That said -- I don't want him to die.

That said, about that said, if dead is dead, and there's no Superman, I can't help but think the DC universe is going to be a pretty baron place by the time Doomsday shows up. =p

Wasn't Doomsday's backstory tied to Superman somehow though? I don't remember exactly, but I thought he was some kind of Kryptonian genetic...

But if there was NO Superman...would any of that happen?

*trails off muttering technobabble*I wasn't sure, and was hoping someone would call me on that.

I wasn't sure if Doomsday was another one of those space faring warriors who had heard about Superman, and came to whoop Willis' ass.

I think you're right. He's Kryptonian byproxy, or something.

But if there was NO Superman...would any of that happen?Be interesting to see how all that stuff would be reshaped, for sure.

Superman's a menace.

Sigh. He was created on Krypton by a bunch of pre-humanoid scientests. Over thousands of years, they killed and then cloned an alien infant. This, in comic book science, greatly increased the rate of evolution the infant's DNA experienced. Eventually, the creature became theoretically impossible to kill, as its body would repair itself after any fatal attack, and that attack would never work again.

Eventually, Doomsday turned on and killed all of the wrinkly scientist that created him, and left Krypton. He roved galaxy, killing, dying, coming back, and killing, before being sealed in a tomb and buried on a barren world by some alien race. When he finally escaped, the barren world was now Earth (gasp!), and Doomsday REALLY wanted to kill the only Kryptonian he smelled.

Basically, without a Superman, Doomsday would have no specific target, but I imagine would still have to be dealt with.

... if it's not Martian Manhunter, it's Wonder Woman.
In this world, Martian Manhunter would have his chance to shine though, without the pretty boy getting in the way.

Captain Marvel's wisdom would tell him to stay the shit out of there. :D
