I picked up a copy earlier this evening.
And I liked it. :-?
Now it's a weird thing because I found the pimping uber-annoying and got real sick of seeing "Gift" threads all over the front page...
...but I have to admit that if there hadn't been so much commotion on this board about it, I probably wouldn't have even considered picking it up...

Anyway, my expectations were really low because of the vitriolic responses I'd seen, and I liked it. However, I seem to recall a lot of talk about it being controversial, and I don't get why, because, after all...
the main character was the devil, and he ended up torturing his tormentors and condemning them to eternal Hell, and what else would you expect from the devil, right? So where's the controversy?
One particularly nice thing I'll say, story-wise, is that I really appreciated the harshness of the devil's response. It's not often you see the consequences being *that* harsh. Some mopes pick on a kid, and for it they aren't just going to be punished somewhat, they're going to be tortured in Hell for all eternity. Wait, is that the controversy?
