View Full Version : Ultimates is a masterpiece

After reading the last issue, I just realized that this is IMO Millar and Hitch's greatest achievement. Just seeing the raw emotion, being able to feel Cap's pain, and pity him through the words and artwork... no one will ever be able to replace Hitch and Millar. I know Loeb and Mads are on next, and I'm sure it'll be awesome, but no way will they even come close to what the current team has achieved. Their 2 volumes so far are epic on so many levels and Hitch and Millar have a synergy that I don't think any other creators have together at the moment. I think that's why I wasn't as much into MK Spidey and Wolvie when he was writing it: I don't think Millar and the Dodson's or Romita Jr. had the kind of connection that he has with Hitch. This is the book they'll both be remembered for.

Sorry for the rant, but after reading the latest ish I just had to say what was on my mind. I actually felt sad at the thought of Millar and Hitch no longer being on the book and the book going on without them.

As far as I'm concerned, it won't be going on without them. Millar and Hitch's last issue will more than likely also be my last.

Volume 2 has just been incredible, I'll still pick it up after they leave, but I can't imagine this title being able to knock it out of the park so consistently after they leave. Keep in mind I actually like Loeb and Mad, so its no knock on them, I don't think even Millar, and Hitch could keep the quality this high forever.

That's probably why Millar won't stay on forever. His style of writing is one where he thinks you should say all you have to say in the shortest amount of space possible to pack the biggest punch. He doesn't want to have a span of 20 issues that don't live up to the good ones. He wants them all to be good and the only way to do that is to get in and get out as quickly as possible while saying all he wanted to in the first place.

agree with you 100%.

man, gonna miss Millar and Hitch on Ultimates so much.

although i'm still eager for Loeb and Mad 'cause they're both proven creators ... man, Millar and Hitch's Ultimates was so fucking good .. IS so fucking good.

:(

God bless,

It's the best superhero book Marvel has ever done, period. And Hitches art is mindblowing.

When he leaves, it is dead to me. I have 0 interest in reading Loeb on this title. Worst pairing of creator with title Marvel has ever made.

I'll remind you when discussions of Ultimates 3 start. ;)

I favourably compare this comic to watchmen, and I don't care how many people think I'm insane because of it.

It's an outstanding achievement, and a thumb in the eye to everybody who looks down on superhero comics.

It is very good.

I still need to get the Volume 1 Hardcover. I've only ever read half of that.

I like how to compliment somebody, you guys have to insult somebody else.

Ultimates has been one of my favorite books for a while now, the art and the writing work perfectly together. I loves it.

it really has been spectacular. i can't believe how consistently great it's been, and how much better volume II, to me, has been.

No, I can compliment Millar with out insulting anyone, I like his books. I can insult Loeb without complimenting anyone else, I really dislike his books.

It was pure chance that put the two names together to be praised and insulted.

Well, unless they get their crack at Superman one day that is. ;)

(and I agree Ultimates has been outstanding this year, wouldn't say its the best superhero book Marvel has ever put out though, but its a classic)
