View Full Version : School Expels Girl for Having Gay Parents

ONTARIO, Calif. (Sept. 23) - A 14-year-old student was expelled from a Christian school because her parents are lesbians, the school's superintendent said in a letter.
Shay Clark was expelled from Ontario Christian School on Thursday.
"Your family does not meet the policies of admission," Superintendent Leonard Stob wrote to Tina Clark, the girl's biological mother.
Stob wrote that school policy requires that at least one parent may not engage in practices "immoral or inconsistent with a positive Christian life style, such as cohabitating without marriage or in a homosexual relationship," The Los Angeles Times reported in Friday's edition.
Stob could not be reached for comment by the newspaper. Shay and her parents said they won't fight the ruling.
School administrators learned of the parents' relationship this week after Shay was reprimanded for talking to the crowd during a football game, Tina Clark said.
Clark and her partner have been together 22 years and have two other daughters, ages 9 and 19.

I like this story. The school says "Sorry, we don't want your daughter here because we're morons." The family says, "Oh, thanks for letting us know, we'll be on our way."

This is the strangest thing about it for me. One of the parents can be a godless lesbian as long as the other is "OK". Weird.

Actually, now that the school has become a refuge for children of homophobic parents (as in, if you were afraid your kid were gay - this is a school that might "cure" them, or at least isolate them) what are the odds that in a few months, most of the student body is comprised of kids who, after displaying homosexual tendencies at home, are sent to this school.

i completely disagree with the school choice to expel the girl, but from a legal stand point they are allowed to. it is a private school, they can kick out whoever they want. it would be a different case if it was a public school.

Exactly right. It sucks, but its a private school, they can do what they want. Just like someone could open a private restaurant and exclude non-whites.

I doubt it. If they are a private school, they wouldn't get any governmnet funding. Now, if vouchers come along, and they accept the money, would they be able to discrimanate against who they let in and who they don't?

but isn't gay marriage legal in canada?
I agree a private school can set up its own rules, so as outraged as we/I are/am, it doesn't matter.
But, expelling a student because their parents are in a relationship that has been recognized as having a 'legal' standing just sounds off to me.
Still, I can't believe the parents bent over and took it.

They used to have big Indy Car race track there, The Ontario Motor Spedway. The California 500 was held over Labor Day weekend from 1970 - 1980. This is Ontario's only claim to fame other than having one of seven or eight commercial airports in Southern California.

You can't really blame the school. The girl's GAY parents probably hug her in the morning before she leaves for school and the girl gets GAY all over her clothes and that might not mean much now but over time, as the weeks and months go by and she keeps carrying GAY to school on her clothes, and you have GAY floating throughout the school, thru the vents, getting all over the teachers and janitors and students, one day there will be so much GAY in the school that the whole place might burst out in one HUGE flippin' GAY orgy.

it is ridiculious because it is forcing people to think a certain way. yes, it is a positive way, but forcing people to thinking tolerantly is just as bad as forcing being to think homophobically. it is still forcing people to think in a way unlike their own, and that is one of the worst things humans can do to each other.

No one is telling you what to think, you can think whatever bullshit you like. The minute you start preaching hate to incite more hate then it becomes an issue for the cops. The hate laws up here aren't even used all that often unless there's a lot of proof of an actual hate crime. I think if anything the government is making sure it doesn't create an atmosphere of acceptance that would make them liable for crimes comitted by hateful cunts. Much like sexual harassment in the workplace, if it can be shown that management allowed an environment of acceptance for unacceptable behaviour then they're just as liable as the perpetrator.

Unless the speech is directly responsible for causing harm, I don't see how you can justify it. And I don't care how they're applied. A bad law is a bad law. If you can make "hate speech" illegal, why not political dissent or promoting wiccanism or anything else that the establishment doesn't like?

I did say OR SPEAK. Maybe you missed that part. Others have rasied the idea of making intolerance, in general, illegal. And that's the only time the law is applied. If anything there are people who would like to see the law applied more. A case here in Vancouver involved a group of assholes from Surrey cruising Stanley Park looking for gay men in the woods. They found one guy, chased him down and beat him to death with baseball bats. The community rallied for the hate law to be applied but because these idiots claimed they were only looking for "Peeping Toms" the crown decided not to apply the hate law due to lack of evidence of a hate crime.
Politicians and the courts are very reluctant to use the law because they know if it were abused people would be up in arms about it.

But what does the law actually say? If it's only used in cases of direct harm, then why not write it so that's the only time it's illegal? Selective enforcement is a bad thing, in my opinion. It leads to abuse and discrimination.

we shouldn't have anything. we have hate crime laws, and those should be done away with. the government has no right to say "this type of feeling is wrong". we have the freedom to hate whoever the fuck we want, and we have the freedom to let people know you hate them, and as much as i disagree with all those people vocalizing their hate i would never dream of taking that freedom away from them. the government shouldn't fight racism. what type of fucked up society needs to have the government say that racism is wrong, and doesn't let the people take their own measures to become decent human beings and end it themselves.

that is where the parents and people need to step in and put an end to it, not the government.
And if the parents are racist? They could become racist because people in the community are preaching hate or agreeing and the parents are doing nothing. You're saying that is fine, yes?

Yes. You keep saying that you're not trying to make different kinds of thinking illegal, but read that your post. It really is what you're doing.

Way to go fellow Christians. That's the way to show the depths and love of Christ...shut people who come to you out
This is one of those times where the difference between religion and faith is glaring.

The sad thing about the whole affair is that the girl is being penalized because of something that is beyond her control.
I mean, yes, the admission guidelines state their policy, but why deny a child admission to a school because of their parents behavior.
The parents aren't the ones attending classes, the child is. And for her to be expelled from school because her parents (who have been together 22 years, so the article says) have a loving long-term relationship is just ridiculous.

And you know what, even if she was gay, it's pretty dumb for a Christian school to lock someone out. I suppose if it was someone's intent to sabatoge or undermine the place a case could be made, but it really makes me sick what this school is done
One of my favorite drawings of Jesus is the one of Him knocking on a door that has no outside handle. He'll ask to be in your life, but you have to let Him in. Instead we get Christians who use Christ as a twisted lightning rod for their hateful ways. :(
