View Full Version : Recommend me an artist for my new book.

So, it's time for me to start searching for an artist for my new book. Anyone care to recommend one? Maybe somebody I haven't heard of or that I've forgotten that's under the radar or just on it.

Here's what I need -- the book is sci/fi horror with a touch of a classic feel. The art doesn't have as clean as say a Chris Moreno, but it still has to be tight. I'd love something in the style of Nord or Jason Alexander. It will have a painted color feel to it -- so keep that in mind. Think IDW in looks.

No Marvel or DC artists, or any prime Dark Horse guys -- perfect would be somebody just under the radar and whose work you might like if it's in that style --

If I actually use them, somebody will get a lot of books.

Might as well make this fun.

Ah, I see. I guess that was the book Bendis was asking about. I really don't have a heavily insightful knowledge of this board outside of threads that are my friends -- so sorry if I came across as being dumb.

NICE.He did my covers, and he's just become the on-going artist for Shadowhawk. So, as far as the latter is concerned, he might be busy, but it's worth a try.

Not real talkative fellow, but does great work, and seems pretty quick!

If you'll turn your head slightly towards Newsarama, you'll see that he's the new regular artist on ShadowHawk.

I think I found out before Newsarama. :D

I'm sure he's busy, but this was an excellent suggestion. It's exactly the type of thing I'm looking for.

Thanks, but I'm going to take a look at a bunch of guys before I approach -- or have somebody graciously approach -- anybody. Just get a sense of some people and wait for something to scream at me. Though I love what this guy is doing. I'm pretty sure he'll want to focus on a new book for a while anyway. But thanks a lot. His work is great.

I'll let you know.

Is this thing in anyway related to the other thing that you were posting about?

If you mean the painted pages I showed, no. That book has all its parts in place.

You'll have to keep the board posted! :D

... and give me a finders fee for my trouble, regardless of the outcome! Pimpin' ain't easy, yo!

How about someone with a David Finch style? I've got a guy who can emulate him pretty well while still having his own style. His pencils are phenomenal.

Jonathan Rector.

He can do classic sci-fi/horror pretty well. He did a 9-page horror story for me that had a real '70s pulp feel to it. Nice guy to work with, too.

Maus is awesome.

Isn't right for this, but he's awesome. I actually have a book in my computer I might contact him about someday. One at a time, though. Working with him was a dream, too. Some of his panels are very dynamic.

Like you already said, Chris Moreno would be perfect if he could do the book.

Of the other board artists, have you talked to Donal? His art is amazing, very clean and he is an artist that is going to make it huge. If you can get him to do the book you should jump on it.

Awesome suggestion.

Kody's great, he'd be perfect for it, and I actually contacted him about my new (last) book (which i still can't name) . ..

http://crackurz.djcoffman.com/teaser.jpg

but he was too busy at the time. He's probably getting really decent pay work right now that I can't compete with. It's a great name though.

Yeah, he's off limits. I tried to touch his wee wee in Chicago and two Beraneks slapped my hand.
