I have to say, being that it's a saturday night, and I've just come in after the bar, I'm lucky as all hell to be doing Moonknight. I can't even begin to say how excited I am about it. Bendis spent a long time, and a lot of effort trying to accomodate me, and he put up with a lot of grief from me too. But working with him really taught me a lot about what I want from my art, and I'm just feeling that pull too strongly to ignore. I've been kind of floating aimlessly for years now artistically, I've just tried to tailor my art to fit the script that I've had in front of me, but I finally feel like I have something in my head again. I know what I want to get out there. So I don't know if I'm making the biggest mistake of my life not working with the best person just on a human level that I've ever known in this business, and my very favorite writer, but I just had to follow my heart. What the hell. So yeah, anyway.

Oh, and I'm talking to C.B. Cebulski about doing something pretty soon too. It's nowhere right now technically, but just talking about it, it's got me very fired up. I feel like I can get across what I want to C.B., and that's not something to take for granted at all. It's so hard for me because I can see in my head what I think that things should be, but articulating it is almost impossible for me. It just comes across as some kind of juvenile bullshit, and I can feel that even while I'm saying it, you know?

So I'm following my gut, and my heart, for the first time since 97 when I did Ascension and it's scary, but it's envigorating too. I feel like I actually belong in this business right now, and that's a bit step forward for me.

Man fallow the gut and do what you gotta do, It ain't like bendis took it personal, Mutha fucka writes powers, and jinx and all his dream books why not let you get yours. As for the shinaniggins you speak of they aint fun anymore and you hunger for more. Us the fans since the redhead winged wonder are with you sir and Hope to see you enjoy yourself( not like you don't enjoy the art of the big hero book). Glad to see the juice back in the batteries now get out there and do up some pages.

Dave, you can never go wrong by following your gut, it is your own personal barometer that guides you to what is in your best interest. You have plenty of people, like myself, who enjoy your work as an artist and suppot you in whatever you do. I feel it flows through to who you are as well. I am joyfull for you that you are doing what makes you feel "ALIVE" and inspired. As an artist that is most important, it will transfer into the work you do an resinate out to all who are out there to receive it. I'm also joyfull to hear that Moon Knight is one of those projects for you. I suppot you in whatever you do.

Dave:

I'm incredibly psyched about your upcoming Moon Knight mini, and I'm also glad to hear that you're following your gut these days with regards to which assignments you choose. But is there any chance that your gut might lead you back to New Avengers following Moon Knight? Having you and McNiven as alternating pencilers on the book has played no small part in the book's success IMO.

Oh, and could you perhaps talk to Bendis about changing the color scheme of Wolverine's costume to brown and tan?

C'mon, you know it would look so much better! ;)

I definately like the brown costume the best. I have no idea what enters people's heads to make him blue and yellow.

Hey Kev-El, thanks.

I never wanted Moonknight to be some wispy ghosty type guy. And I'm not trying too hard. That's what I was going for. In fact, I'm going to give him the spikes on his knuckles too, and I'm thinking about finding a way to have him covered in blood and goo through most of the series. ARRGGH.

I think you've just become my favorite artist EVER!!! Can't wait to see Spector covered in gore, with the spikes on his knuckles and everything. February seriously cannot come soon enough!

Oh, and Dave, you may not remember this, but you actually put me in one of your comics. It was in an issue of Ultimate X-men. You put my old screen name, Jackraow21, on a wall in the background as grafitti.

So you were already one of my favorites anyway, but this just catapulted you to the top of the list. ;)

I don't know of any links to previews...I know that I saw a picture up somewhere, but I can't remember where. Anyway, it was just one picture. I think you should be able to find it if you type Moonknight into a search of the Jinxworld forums as a whole though.

i'm so glad that you are doing what you think is best for you artistically. i loved your work on NA, and i'm sure i will love this. one of the reasons i picked up NA was because of you and brian, and now i will be sure to pick up moonknight because of you.

did you start working on that other thing you mentioned to me a few months ago? let me know how that turns out. and be sure to email sometime. it's only cute when i don't email you ;) in all seriousness, drop me a line and best of luck with everything.

Your welcome Dave, anytime. Anytime you would like to talk about anything I am more than open to doing so. I am changing careers at this time and moving into doing my consultant/fascilitator work full time. Send me a private message if you choose and I can give you my contact info. As far as the cetus spikes, there has to be something bad going down for Moon Knight to be using them. He has only used them twice in his career, originally fighting the werewolf because silver spikes work just as well as silver crescent darts and a silver costume when fighting a werewolf and also against the Black Spectre. Moon Knight does not use them on a whim, it has to be a last ditch effort or a specific reason. I don't need the cetus spikes, blood or goo to enjoy a great Moon Knight book and they are not neccessary for a great Moon Knight book. I know Marc is definitely no pussy, but he is no sado masacist either. It's things like these that make me concerned and hints towards trying too hard. Does Frank know that Moon Knight's costume is silver? It didn't come across that way in the preview pic in Wizard. I know Charlie Huston knows the costume is silver; from all of the times he has stated it in the interviews, on his website and in the emails he and I have exchanged, and I assume that you know since you are a Moon Knight fan as well. I have been waiting for this book for 20+ years, since the original series ended, and I am hoping with the talent and enthusiasm you and Charlie have for Moon Knight create the opportunity for him to be the great character that he is and more people get to enjoy him. Thus, making him a major player in the Marvel universe. Dave, here is the link to the interview we did with Doug Moench on our comic podcast: Comic Geek Speak Podcast (http://www.gamecircuit.info/cgs/cgs-episode057.mp3) check it out and let me know what you think. Here is the link to our website Comic Geek Speak Website (http://www.comicgeekspeak.com) where you can listen to past episodes and learn about us. Would you be interested in doing and interview with us at some point? Let me know. Oh, by the way I used to MWOF from the original board and I think that MWOF would look really cool splashed somewhere in a Moon knight book. ;) Keep up the good work and stay well.

Hehe, and I was just poking you a bit. I'm not going to cover him in goo all the time, don't worry. ....Maybe sometimes. I am going with the spikes though! They were Charlie's idea actually. And he'll need them. Oh, and if it'll make you feel a bit better, we are working on how to color him more appropriately silver. It's a challenge to get it right though. I don't want to go with the black outfit....just a preference visually.

Cool Dave, I knda figured you were pulling my strings, but I wasn't sure. OK, ya got me. ;) I kinda figured when you said about the cetus spikes and knowing how violent Charlie's stuff is they would be appropriated. That's cool news about the coloring, I have seen the same pic that Wizard published outside of Wizard and it looks better than it did in their pages. I don't mind the silver costume, I think it looks very cool, I just get tired of everyone saying he is white. So, yes it will help me sleep at night. :D ;) Thank you for joining my Yahoo club and for listening to the show. We just bought a new piece of equipment that we can route the phone call into the computer so it sounds the same as we do, instead of the old fashioned way. Wow! Moon Knight seems to really have given you a new breath of life, man! I used to come check this board to see if you had posted and a long time had passed since.

In my opinion, Moon Knight has never been so bad ass as you drew him for that Wizard preview. There's a certain energy there that's already better than your New Avengers work.

Dave:

Just out of curiosity, do you happen to have any idea of Marvel's plans for Moon Knight after your mini-series? Obviously they have big plans for the guy, but I was just wondering if you knew what those were.

Any chance of him joining the New Avengers or a newly formed West Coast Avengers team or anything like that? I know he's not really the team player type, but, then again, Wolverine was never supposed to be either, and now he's on just about every team in the Marvel Universe!

Didn't Moon Knight appear in an on-going graphic magazine of some sort for Marvel? I seem to recall that's where I first came across the character, these great black and white stories. Good luck with the series, it will be nice to see a childhood favorite brought back to life.

The only Moon Knight story that was printed in black and white was in the magazine Marvel Preview #21. It was later printed in color in the Moon Knight Special Edition #3.

Awesome to see that Dave has such enthusiam for working on this book. In an industry where some artists bitch about working on "second tier" characters like Moon Knight, it's nice to see a guy who is interested in pursuing his artistic goals rather than just taking the most high profile job that's available to him.

Well, I learned a long time ago that any book is only as good as what you can make it be. What's the point of getting Xmen if you can't do it justice? I think way too many artists don't understand that the only thing that matters is the quality of the work. It's what you make of it....
