...walking on campus today. All I can say is, gimme a fucking break.

Now, don't get me wrong, my heart is with the victims and those still suffering as much as anyone else, but this post traumatic patriotism shit really irks me. The same thing happened with 9/11 with all the american flags everywhere and all the retarded "support our troops" stickers.

No one gives a shit about anything until something bad happens. It's completely fake. There's not a hint of a genuine feeling at all. Plus, parading it around on a baseball tee is disgusting.

Maybe they donated money. Maybe they traveled to New Orleans once and fell in love with the city. Maybe they just want to express their solidarity with a city in pain. Maybe you should try to give people the benefit of the doubt once in a blue moon.

What was it you were saying about hateful conservatives recently? Can you go one week without starting a thread that gloats over other people for one reason or other?

Plus, you got all that from a tee-shirt, huh?

Rare occasions, but yeah... I'm with the conservatives on this one.

Why does everyone misconstrue this as hatred or rage? I just think its retarded. Nothing more. It's like I said with the American flag thing, if you're going to be patriotic, be that way all the time, not just when something bad happens or its trendy.

Well, some people just don't appreicate how good they've got it here, until this kind of shit happens. I highly doubt you're all that patriotic 24/7, so where do you get off judging anyone?

I love my country and I appreciate everything it gives me. I just despise most of the people. Which is something I battle with constantly, with my social ideals.

So, were you marching around in your "I  New Orleans" t-shirt, before it became the 'kewl' thing to do? Is that why you're so upset? Like the people who run around and call themselves punks, while the old school punks just sit around feeling more and more jaded.

No, that's not what I mean. I just think its lame to put on the shirt, and while I'm inferring as to the meaning behind putting it on I guess, I'm going to go ahead and infer that its in relation to the hurricane. My point is, it's in my opinion just lame to walk around like a poster for tragedy, like people are supposed to see it and respect you for being sad. A lot of this conempt I have is residue from the American flag thing, which irked me to no end and still does. Why the fuck should I acknowledge someones patriotism only after it becomes trendy? (which I'm not saying the New Orleans thing is).

That's the whole idea behind displaying thigns publicly. Go ahead and argue the "real meaning" behind such things all you want. But its true. When people put a flag outside, its meant to be a sign.

No one's asking you to. You can ignore it, or you can jump on an internet messageboard and whine about how you refuse to acknowledge it. That's how shit works in this country. Everyone's got a choice, my friend. Respect other people's right to express themselves in whatever way they want.

But you attack her here, where she doesn't know about it, and can't speak on her own behalf. Do you see where I'm going, here?

I'll bet you can't stand watching candidates getting elected for president.

There's a LOT of people waving flags that wouldn't normally wave otherwise. :P

I understand the point you're trying to make, but you're putting it in terms of absolutes which is why there's such a reaction to what you posted.

If you had said, "I'll bet a lot of them are only patriotic when something bad happens" then you'd be right. That's what some are taking offense at.

I understand what you're saying, but I'm expressing my thoughts more on the reasoning and ideology behind the situation, not on the girl herself. Although you could consequently relate the two.

Besides, isn't that what the internet is for? Take a look around.

I'm not saying its absolute. That's just what people automatically presume, so they can start in on it.

Yeah, no shit. I saw Sean Penn down in New Orleans actually rescuing people in his own boat. Everyone on this forum who has ever said anything remotely bad about him should get down on their knees and suck his dick I guess.

Those people sign a contract the day they become public figures. It's always just been an unspoken law. Once you become a public figure, you no longer have feelings.

Says who? Just because someone makes a living entertaining you, doesn't mean you get to shit on them. They're just doing they're job. If we're going to shit on people, do it equally.

You should have made that abundantly and perfectly clear, so that everyone in the world knows you're joking, otherwise, you deserve a full ass raping.

I'm being sarcastic too. :D

Shirts like that are just a way to sent good wishes to the people effected. It's a positive thing, coming together in time of need is a good thing. Showing friendship and support, also good.

I wouldn't wear one myself, I think it's a bit cheesy. But resenting people doing a positive thing is not the way to be Bill.

I don't resent her. Like you said, I think its really cheesey and artificial. I just said it really hardcore.
