I'm disappointed with where Jimmy Cooper's character is going. Last season I was really starting to like him.

I kinda am too.
and am prepared to be dissapointed with Jeri Ryan's.
I feel like they lost a lot with Heinberg and lost a little more when they brought on JJ. I don't like her episodes much. Very basic and normal teen drama--less humor.
And as much as it hurts me to agree with you, I was gonna say the sid and nancy thing.

I liked it. Jeri Ryan is so up to something, I just hope it doesn't turn out to be a lesbian thing with Kirsten, But I won't mind if it is.

Man, I loved Ryan punching the Dean. The way I see it, the Dean shouldn't even be allowed to touch a student, and if they're in pain when he does it, then obviously that's not right. I really got into Ryan punching him though.
Also, does anyone else feel like Seth and Summer aren't acting like couples normally do? What's up with that?
Good episode. Really looking forward to the future of this show. It's started off really strong though.
Also, Craig Thompson's Blankets got a mention.

i just think seth and summer are really comfortable with eachother now. like they're past all the crap and won't be splitting up anymore. seth acts like an old jew man already married for 50 years.

Yeah, I see what you mean. I don't see anything coming between them anymore. Summer is obviously the girl for Seth, has been forever. And I think Seth is exactly what Summer needs.

another meh episode. They've got another week to convince me that I shouldn't be watching EVERYBODY HATES CHRIS or SMALLVILLE instead.

Yeh, I wasn't actually serious about watching SMALLVILLE. Although the idea of dropping THE OC for EVERYBODY HATES CHRIS is gaining some support.

I really liked most of Season One (basically everything except for the Oliver-heavy episode). I was a bit more hot and cold with Season Two.
Season Three seems to have ditched the comedic elements that gave the show it's charm and has becoming little more than just another 90210 clone.

Honestly, I think Josh Schwartz thought that FOX wouldn't let The OC get out of the first season alive, so he put a shitload of effort into it. There's a LOT of parallelism in the narrative, great use of music, slick editing, and some of the best damn writing on TV at the time (or at the very least, for that genre).
And then the show got renewed and they'd used up their best material.

It had to happen, guys. The OC has joined Dawson's Creek in jumping the shark third season. Here are the signs.
1. The relentlessly evil new villain, usually an authority figure. Could Dean Hess be any more of a caricature? I mean, he's just so relentlessly unlikable it's almost funny. The show's previous villains(Julie Cooper, Caleb, Trey) all had complex characters. Dean Hess should have a moustache to twirl.
2. The loss of their best writer. Kevin Williamson, meet Allen Heinberg.
3. A cliched Romeo and Juliet story beginning next week, where the parents try to keep Ryan and Marissa apart.
I love this show, and it really hurts me to see it go downhill, but this episode had a hell of a lot of bad signs.

waah waah waah no black people on OC waah waah waah
i saw the pilot to everyone hates chris and the only white people were either calling chris a nigger or trying to make him miss the bus. so you can take your race wars and shove em up your ass

I KNOW! We were talking about it last night how shallow and stupid his character is. Over the top hatred. We were laughing by the time Ryan punched him out. Didn't see THAT coming. It would have been better had he punched out Taylor instead.
And what's up with Charlotte? She creeps me out.

Dean Hess I think has a deeper story involved here. There's too much of a hatred of Marissa there. I'm interested to see where that goes.
Also, Charlotte creeps me the fuck out.

Charlotte: Alcoholic lesbian? Pyscho kidnapper? Money seeking blackmailer that wants Caleb's money? Freak that will take over Kristen's life and steal her man?
And that cabin... shudder, you might as well make her Kathy Bates and give her a sledge hammer and call it Misery.

Yeah, my husband & I were discussing what her back story could be. Cause she's just evil. I know it.
We came up with:
Theory A) Sandy was somehow involved in having one of her relatives in jail
Theory B) Kirsten's dad did something horrible to her and/or her family, and this is part her revenge
Theory C) She knows Sandy from somewhere, and while he never noticed her, she became smitten with him
Theory D) She has a lesbian crush on Kirsten (least likely, I think they already used up their lesbian storyline.)
I think it's A, but we'll see!

I think it's A, but we'll see!
I think it has to be theory D just based on the look she had when Kirsten and Sandy were hugging/kissing. Seeing as how they've already turned the clock back and gave Jimmy Cooper the EXACT SAME PROBLEM he had in season 1, I don't think this is a show that has a problem with recycling storylines.
and it was directed by your savior Reginald HudlinI love people like you. ;-)

He seemed to hate Ryan too. I'm not sure, you might be right about him having a hidden story, but he might just be an asshole. It seems next week he starts harassing Seth and Summer too.
I hate Charlotte already. I wish the show would stop coming up with contrived drama to cause problems for Sandy and Kirsten.

And I bet we find out he's doing Taylor, the girl who ratted Marissa out.
