Hey Alex -
I have been trying to find sort of an interview with you, where you explain how you do you fantastic artwork, but I've been unsuccesfull so far. Then a friend of mine surgested that I contacted you here on jinxworld, so here goes! ;)

I would very much like to hear how you work. You use models, right? But how? And how much? Do you have a different model for each character? Do you draw from pictures, or on top of pictures? Do you draw on paper, or on the computer (with a wacom)? Do you photograph each and every single panel in the comics?
And the backgrounds ... those are obviously photos, but how do you prepare them for your artwork? Do you take photos and then photocopy them? Do you scan the photos and manipulate (use filters? Which ones?) in Photoshop?
How do you join the characters and the backgrounds? Do you just draw the characters, and then fill in the backgrounds in programs like Photoshop?

Please ... how DO you DO that woodoo that you DO so well ???

He talks about his work on this board you just have to do digging. I would look for his pics of his work in progress. You can learn a ton of stuff from that.

He has an army of 100,000 chipmonks chained to 100,000 teeny tiny drafting tables in the space behind the walls of his plush house in the Hamptons, and he only feeds them when they come up with something like last month's cover.

Sorry Alex. The secret's out.

Every time there is to be a full moon, Alex leaves a blank sheet of paper, 15 shiny nickels, a glass of maple syrup, and a small glass of goats blood under the steps of a small cabin in Yaphank New York. In the morning the covers are done. He tried to stay up to see how it happened once, but fell asleep.

oh man, I'd love to know the awnsers to all of those questions, but I don't mind not knowing.
Marvelling at the work is half of the joy. Maleevs style is unique, nothing exists like it because it uses so many different styles, knowing how its done may dimish from that.

You can't ask a good magician how he does those amazing tricks.... But if you know (psst.) he uses wires... that magician that is, not maleev... he could use wires, I don't think he does... do you? hmm interesting.
