I should be getting PS1's Castlevania: Symphony of Night any day now, to play on my PS2. I brought it up to a friend last night, and he said that I may not be able to save my games. He said that he played PS1 Myst on his PS2, and was unable to save his games.

Is this true?

just make sure you have a PS1 memory card and you'll be fine.

Most should be alright but I have heard there was a few problems with a select few titles. No problems that I came across though.
