I wanna go, but I already have signed Powerses, a page of original Powers art, and a Deena sketch. What more does a guy need? And it's not like Oeming wants to sit around talking with me... what the hell do I have to say? And I have no use for bootleg DVDs right now, so.... am I going? I don't know! Looks cool, though.

If you are looking for an entertaining 'told in one' tale then look no further than "Six"

Go here:http://newsarama.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=11689 for the story on the book along with some preview art. I love it. Hammer of the Gods is also a great look at the Norse gods (and other gods).

I've never been to this sort of thing before.... Does one buy tickets in advance? Is it worth paying for the extra hour in the morning? How much cash should I expect to drop in one day?

(Oh, and today I popped my Oemming cherry by picking up Six. I have to say, I'm also pretty excited that the Luna Bros. will be there. Loved Ultra.)

I second this question.

I should take a picture of the framed Powers art on my wall, have Oeming sign the picture, and then frame the picture and hang it on my wall. And then every time Oeming comes around, I'll take a picture of the picture of the picture, etc, into infinity. And then the universe explodes.

Yep, I cant wait to go! Boston is a fun town, except it closes down kind of early, strange for a drinking town. Also the stripers stand too far away at the clubs:)

No idea, my favorite place to do brunch is no longer there. :(

I don't care where, as long as I can have plenty of Mimosas. ;)

Anyone know of a good brunch place?

Oh, and I think that we needn't do the early bird thing and pay the extra cash.

I also have a bunch of fliers from the shop, in which you can all save a buck (yeah, I know, cheap, aren't I?)

Anyway, PM me any suggestions and shit. And by next week, I will have a plan hashed out. Any suggestions you guys may have I would love to hear, because I am drawing a blank.

What time do you want to meet? How long to stay at the show? Where to eat? Should I bring my pipe or rolling papers, etc. ;)

Um, no immediate plans to this year. My plans as they stand right now for out-of-state cons are WWChi in August, then the big National Big Apple Con in NY in November.
But, I'd LOVE to come to Boston. I just don't think I'll have the $$ for it this year.

2 hours drive.
but no trains. and hte bus would be from springfield. and that would take three plus cause it would go from springfield to the mass pike instead of jsut driving right on route 2.

but i want to come very badly. i am just going to see if i can get some other comic book fans in the amherst area to go and con them into driving

Sorry guys, I meant to put up a poll, but we are preparing for the anime con, and I am going to be working non-stop (including my normal days off).

I have to work tomorrow (normally my day off), and Thursday I will be gone all day for my sister's birthday. Friday I get to rest, and Saturday its back to work.

I am going to be there at 11 o'clock and hope to see you all there.

If you guys want to plan something, I am afraid you will have to take it upon yourselves, cuz I am way too swamped (plus, my man has been away for two days in Dallas for business, and he is due home any minute--if you know what I mean ;)

Hey Oeming, can't wait to see you and Neil. Will it be possible to get a sketch or something from you. How much?

(Sorry, never been to anything like this before. You're going to be the one to bust my cherry. :p )

My suggestion is that we either go to Rock Bottom Brewery (mid-priced place with lots of beer and "American" food) or Dominic's (pizza, subs etc, also with beer, but cheaper), both of which are within a block or two of the Radisson.

Do we want to pick a place to meet up ath the con? I've never been to one so I have no idea how to work that.

NickBurgess
04-13-2005, 06:59 AM
Ron, and everyone else - Oeming does sketches, but he'll likely be pretty busy, so just ask if he'll have a chance. Both times I met and got sketches from Oeming I asked for something very fast and simple because A) I didn't wanna take up all his time B) I'd feel rude asking for a picture of Walker fighting a bad guy while monkeys fuck in the background, you know?

The last time I went to a con where Oeming was (same one as this, last year, I think), I made sure to buy some of his art, too, cause the man's gotta eat, and drawing me a picture won't put food on his table! The time before that, though, in New York, I was unemployed and dirt poor (didn't buy a single thing at this huge convention - just there to meet people whose work I admire), and Oeming signed my books and drew me a quick little Walker sketch for my buddy's birthday (he's also a Powers fan). Then, upon hearing it was for the guy's birthday, he gave me a signed copy of the Retro Girl trade to give him!

So, I guess this goes for everyone who hasn't been to a con, etc, Oeming is a cool, nice dude (as are many of your other favorite creators), and he'll be happy to sign your stuff and say hi. If you want a sketch, ask nicely, don't be pushy if he's busy, and don't forget he has plenty of original art, sketchbooks, and sketches for sale, and I'm sure he'd love for you to buy some of it. And I don't know if he charges for anything more complex than a simple Walker head. He might.

That's my philosophy with creators I haven't heard of before, too. A few bucks for a couple issues of someone's self-published comic book can make drawing your 500th Spider-Man of the day a lot more comfortable.

Finally, don't act like anyone in Stuart Immonen's 50 Reasons To Stop Sketching At Conventions. Wish I could link to it, but I don't think it's online anymore. :(

We'll have a vegetarian and a vegan in our group, so if possible we need to find a place that is accomodating to everyone.

ItsDLEVY

There's a really excellent vegan restaurant in Chinatown called Buddha's Delight, only a few blocks away from the hotel where the con is. Would that work for everyone?

Well, Nick and I (and Nick's girlfriend and Nick's roommate) were the only ones who successfully met up for lunch, but it was fun.

But the best part of the day for me, I think, was that I got a really kick-ass Oeming original from one of the recent Powers books. As soon as I get a chance to take a picture of it, I'll post it. Very cool stuff.

I missed the show :(

Something about being a good uncle/godfather and attending my niece's birthday party.

But I did get to meet a couple of artists yesterday that stopped in at Springfield before heading out to Boston. They were (I'm sure I'm going to butcher a few of their names :( )Chris Moreno of Dracula vs King Arthur (or is it King Arthur vs Dracula) Talia D of Sabrina the Teenage Witch and Tony Castillo (I sorta forgot his name because he's an artist on a Batman title and I don't read any Batman titles). They were pretty cool.

Had a cool time at the con. Had some chinese food with my crew and itsdlevy, got some comics, got Oeming's sketchbook #3 and Six (and an awesome 86 Volt sketch), got a Brain (of Pinky & the) sketch for my girlfriend, a cool little monster drawing, got the Luna brothers to sign my Ultra #1. Went out and sat on Boston Common and read some comic books.

After we left, my girlfriend and her friend commented that Oeming was the nicest creator they'd met at a convention. And itsdlevy should come to the next Boston bash. That's what I say!

Oh yeah, also picked up the first two issues of "Captain Drew and his Crew of Two." Didn't know what to think going in, but I must say, though the artwork could still use quite a bit of work, it's a thoroughly readable little comic.

Told the Johnny Raygun dude that I enjoyed the comics I'd picked up at the last convention, too.

Good times!

Well, I have to say, my first con was a blast! I went with two of my friends (also con virgins) and met Oeming (who I got to sign one of my issues of Powers, and the last copy of Quixote, which I snatched up), met the Luna Bros (got them to sign the issue I got my letter published in, and got my first sketch ever, w00t!), and got the Star Wars Holiday special bootleg (my first bootleg DVD!). I'm sad I didn't get to meet up with anyone from the board, but my roommate was giving his junior recital this afternoon, so I had to rush back for that.

All in all, a success, a blast, and some of the nicest people I've ever met. w00t for Oeming and the Luna Bros, you guys ROCK!
