Is there any hope for me?

No, Ipod is one thing.. The sunglasses, as cool as that sounds, is a bit much.

If not, you might want to find a new job.

it's a university research lab...where we're supposed to be doing science

A co-worker likes to talk endlessly and ask the same question over and over with different phrasing. We have cubicles so I don't pay attention to her. If she asks a direct question I make like I didn't hear it or give a half hearted yes or no. She's a sweet heart, but come on.
The cake thing is overwhelming all the time. I just say I'm full and they stop asking.

kind of my work has to do with lipid metabolism (but not in humans)

You should try to create a cake/pie hybrid. Something that combines the best qualities of cake and pie.

yeah, I got nothing. Your high falutin' smarty pants scientist job makes me realize how inferior my intellect is and I'm just jealous...
plus you're married to Super Girl, for crying out loud. The rest of us just can't compete. ;)

My work outlawed birthday crap at work. Just for this reason.
Isn;t there anyone you can report these people to? Just start complaining to management and you'll quickly get a reputation as a narc. You'll be alienated in a week.

You didn't have to walk too far behind the lab I used to work at to find beer cans. It was located right next to a college campus, so I blame the stinkin' students.

don't even get me started with that...I'm expected to teach as part of my education...and I enjoy talking about science (which is basically all the lecture is) but I have a low tolerance for particular students (freshmen)

I once worked with a guy who supposedly had some strange brain disorder. He would have these (seizers spells) where he would just start yelling profanities, or maybe just start saying "you're OK Tim" over and over.

Yeah, I don't know what this guy's story was but it wasn't that. He had a variety of other traits that managed to piss everyone off. I used to tell people I was going to push him down the stairs during one of his "attacks".

I understand the growing dislike of your co-workers. I've had those feelings too where every single word uttered out of these people make you cringe with black hatred of death inside, burning to a crisp char.

Do what I do.
Quickly run in, grab a piece of cake and then scuttle back to your work area crouching over your cake and growling in a menacing manner at any co-workers that approach.

Do we work at the same place? Because I've used that phrase before also.
Really, though, I love my coworkers. About 90% of them.
Anything else I can't say because they could very well be part of this board without me knowing. Those bastards are sneaky like that.

JR, sorry to hear that. I'm lucky I get along with all my co-workers, except my superiors (actually, that will soon change, HA HA)...
The way I see it though, you're stuck with these people. Might as well make it pleasant for yourself and everyone else, you know? Then again, I'm too easy to get along with...and it takes a LOT to get me pissed off.
Cake? :D

What you should do is buy a giant chocolate cake and eat it all by yourself making sure to get chocolate round your mouth. Sure it won't solve anything but it'll be highly satisfying.

It's board safe, but it's at my home computer. It's basically a picture of me wiping a coffee stain from my shirt. I don't know why I was photographed, BUT, being the man that I am, I HAD to ham it up!
I'll post it once my home computer is back online..
