SO I mentioned once or twice before that I was negotiating for a licence to publish a comic book based on a popular television show.

Well it kinda fell through today cause no matter how hard I tried to "crunch" the numbers I couldn't figure out a way for SSS COMICS and the Network to make money.

I am not mad at the outcome because I am pretty happy to have gotten as far as I did in the process. I look at it this way.....I actually had "meetings" to discuss one of my favorite shows on TV.

The whole process of this took months and I am going to post a sample page just cause a lot of people put alot of time into this project and I promise you it would have kicked ass.

The creative team was to be as follows:

Josh Fialkov - writer
Bill Maus and Thad Rhodes III on Art and Colors
Saul Colt - guy who pays everyone!

Anyway here is what was going to be the next big thing from SSS Comics

Thanks to eveyone at HBO for entertaining the idea and if anyone at DC COMICS sees this (cause they are owned by the same company) you guys should make this book. I have done the reasearch and I am positive it would sell well!

Now I am off to my next idea!

I tried to acquire the rights for Mortal Kombat, but as I enquired, they were actually preparing to launch their own. :(

You're my hero Colt.
When I grow up, I want to be just like you!

That's too bad!

I would've shelled out quite a bit for The Wire to be a comic.

ya ask.

then they decide if it is viable and if they can make money.

for this project they loved the idea. Loved me (I think) loved the art and creative team they just didnt see the comic book market being able to show a strong enough return for them to make a good royalty.

I will repeat this so I'm clear. I am not mad and understand thier point.

I guess I just wish the comic book industrie was better cause this would have been great!

Great I tell you

Sorry it fell through, Saul. But it's always good to get the experience. I know from personal experience, the licensing game is hard.

But I can't wait to see what you've got cooking next! :D

Yep,

Josh is good at this serious stuff. If you are looking for boobie jokes......i'm the king but for stuff with "fuck" in the dialoge I defer to Josh.

Awesome stuff!
Good luck in all your future and current projects.
Auestion: How expensive is it to self-publish some B/W stuff with color covers?
(Obviously, I know that it probably depends on many factors. but is there an approximate general range...I don't know...like some basic guidelines?)
Thanks for your help...

Really hard to say.

Are you drawing it and writing it or will you be paying someone to do it?

Printing alone will cost you about a dollar a book in the 1500-2000 range or you can use Comixpress for smaller quantities.

Writing and drawing it both.
I hope you don't mind me asking...what is comixpress?
In any case, thanks so much for your help, I will now stop bothering you and try doing some research about it...

(BTW...LOVE Eclipse and Vega!!!!)

comixpress.com is a service that allows you to print as many or as few books as you wish. You can litterally print 12 books if that is all you need and their quality is very good.

There are a bunch of people in the board that use them and I have been impressed with the product they put out.

check out their site for more info!

p.s. Thanks for reading my book! It means a lot to me

Wow, that would have been something. Properties like that are what helped IDW build their foundation and gave them some stability in the market, IMO. Good luck with whatever is next, Saul.

Thanks. It would have been huge for SSS COMICS in establishing the fact that we can do these sorts of projects and do them VERY well.
