There's just too many stupid bidders out there.

Had my eye on a text book, opened at a dollar yesterday. Now its at 25 bucks already with eight days to go. Why do people feel it necessary to just keep bidding up an item, when if they simply wait till the end, they can bid on it cheaper? I don't get it. What a waste.

Only the smart ones wait till the end of the auction.

Because getting something cheaply isn't the only reason people use eBay.

Well, if you're buying textbooks it should be.

I don't understand why people lose a bid then complain that they were willing to pay more than what the winning bid turned out to be. In my opinion, that's just as dumb. Bid the maximum you're willing to pay, and everything takes care of itself, if you lose an auction due to not bidding what you're willing, then you have no one to blam bt yourself.

Yeah. I don't ever bid until the very end of the auction. That's when I bid what I'm willing to pay, but it just doesn't make sense that people bid the item up. It's just a waste. Sure you can be willing to pay more, but if you don't have to, then why do it?

Have you thought that maybe people bid early because they won't be around a computer when it ends, or some other reasons?

I stand by that if you bid your maximum no matter when you place it, then you have no reason to complain.

If everyone waited until the last 5 minutes to bid it would be a pretty stupid process. I usually enter my max bid and then leave it alone. If I lose it I lose it. Watching the bidding can help someone evaluate true worth. I agree with Shane 100%. Why give up because you lost?

I always wait until the end and place my max bid. I think you win more auctions that way, also I think it keeps people the seller has asked to run up the bid from running up the bid. I love when I lose an auction and like 3 hours later I'll get a second chance offer because the bidder can't pay. I always laugh to myself and think "Fuck you! You piece shit!"

I only bid my maximum if I know I wont be around and I really want the item. You almost always end up paying more by doing so I have learned from my experiences.

Not saying it is, but something else to watch for is shill bidders. What you described would make me take a look at the sellers feedback or other on going auctions and see if the same bidders are continually bidding/winning his auctions. I have not ever used ebay to purchase a text book, is it common for text books to jump in price so quickly? What is the value of the text book if bought new from retail store?

It is a pretty expensive text, over a hundred bucks I think, but I was just shocked it went up so high so fast. The auction is still long from over. Usually I don't buy texts on ebay, but this has been the cheapest I've seen it so far.

To hell with that! I LOVE Ebay! I just sold my Mage Knight junk and made enough money to cover my hotel in Chicago, buy a treadmill AND have a couple hundred left over!

Ebay is the best thing that ever happened to me!

Well, besides marriage, having kids, this board, my inking career, my friends, my family... well, you get the point...

Yeah, I love selling stuff on ebay, but buying has become a pain in the ass. I made a killing off heroclix, just like you did with mageknight.

There are a lot of shill bidders that jack up these auctions. Have you tried looking at half.com for the book?

I'm all about waiting, not bidding the item up, and trying to get the item as cheap as possible. Just because I'm willing to pay $25 doesn't mean I wouldn't rather pay $20. However, if I sell something I'm completely against this practice. :p

Yeah. I've looked everywhere. I found the best site.

Its: www.fetchbook.info (www.fetchbook.info)

It searches everybookstore/auction site on the internet and finds all the prices. It's awesome. i don't use anything else now. This is actually where I found the BandN USM book for like 25 bucks.

I'm SERIOUSLY thinking about throwing the Hero Clix up next... The Galactus alone will grab me 150... not to mention the pile of uniques and LEs...

I made a killing off Galactus last year after WW Philly.

Perhaps they are doing as Shane said. They are putting in their maximum bid.

This may very well be the first time I've seen someone complain when people DON'T snipe on eBay.

The book is worth $100, it started at $1 and you are surprised it's already bid up to $25?

There's a reason to give up on Ebay. What did you think you could get the book for, $2? What would you sell the book for if you owned it?

I bid what I'm willing to pay, then see what happens. I hate playing games.

I rarely buy on Ebay though, I pretty much only sell. Ebay auctions are paying for WWChicago this year... I  Ebay.

Well, if you'd have read what I said, I said I am not surprised if it got this high or higher, but it went up so quickly. It just started on a ten day listing. But thats ok, don't read or anything.
