07-16-2005, 01:23 AM
Eh, I really can't argue with most of those because the noms were actually quite good, though I have to say, I've read some of the The Goon, and it definitely ain't bad, but it doesn't hold a candle to Ex Machina or Y... And I loved The New Frontier but I think WE3 was not only the best mini series of the last year, but probably the best I've ever read period... oh well, congrats to all... poor Mack...

I think with Mack it's not 'if' but 'when.' He'll get one, eventually. Unfortunatelty this wasn't the year.

Mack might be the most talented comics creator I've ever seen.

According to who? There should be two different types of awards for indy books and mainstream books.

There are: the Harveys are the indie-awards. The Eisners the mainstream. And if the mainstream books just aren't as good as the rest, why reward them?

I love Joss' work, but he's put out less than 12 issues. He didn't deserve the writing award over Vaughan.

All in all, this is a great list of winners. Paul Chadwick definitely earned the writer/artist award for Concrete: The Human Dilemma. That was an amazing series.

I think Quitely would've taken the Penciller award from Cassaday, if he had put more than We3 this year.

And how many times has James Jean won the best cover artist award now? Was Maleev nominated for this category?

Best Painter/Multimedia Artist (interior art):

This was one of the few awards I kept my eye on. A very well deserved honor for Teddy, who illustrated the book in something like 20 different art styles.

It is the one issue that we can't keep in the freaking store.

Every time we reorder (and we reorder it a lot, in large amounts) it is gone.

Actually, just looking at the 'eightball' spot on our shelf, it appears we are out of it again.

Where is Austin Books and Comics?

It's in beautiful Austin, Texas!

This is the store I work at. I'm damn proud of it, and i really believe we're the best. I'm a little crushed deep inside for not getting the award, but I know we did our best, and will continue to do so.

Now that this is turning intpo a semi-acceptance speech, i want to thank all of our customers on the board. Thud, Rod, Turd, Tyeron, Lab-Rat and anyone else I don't know posts here. It's you and the rest of our customers that make us a success.

Now...why do you ask?

well, it was a brilliant comic
certainly the best the series had seen in a while
i don't think i've ever seen someone do something so original with the superhero genre while doing exactly what everybody is trying to do
i didn't think anybody could do superheroes better than Alan Moore before i read this comic

not only that, but he did it without looking down his nose at the genre or its fans (like 75% of Project Superior)

it was original and didn't talk down to you so you didn't like it?

For one thing it didn't feel one bit original. It was very bland or dry in both artwork and writing. It felt stretched and as always had unneeded sex or sex fantasies in it.

not to bring up any unpleasantness but how many years has Mack been nominated and not gotten it? And i think the art book thats coming soon will change the minds of the voters.

most of those aren't even indy books

The Goon is like the antithesis of what you guys are insinuating is artsy shit

in fact, isn't powell gonna be working for marvel a hell of a lot soon?

and BKV winning a bunch of stuff- I mean, he's a maintream writer, I don't get what you guys are complaining about.

This was actually a pretty fair mix of indie and mainstream, unless you guys want all of them to be given to Marvel and DC
