What're some of you fave Maiden tunes? What do you feel are overlooked gems? What was/is there best era? Best line-up? I'll admit that while a fan, I'm not a Maiden expert, though.
As to a gem of mine I love? I give you the song Prodigal Son!

In high school I nearly wore out my copy of the Number of the Beast LP, even though I wasn't a metalhead.
Woe to you, O earth and sea...

I think their newer stuff is better than a lot of the old. Brave New World (granted, not shiny brand new) is one of their best albums.

Run To The Hills is awesome.
Btw, the lead singer, Bruce Dickinson is a qualified pilot and actually flew my favourite football team, Rangers to an away European match a few years ago.

Maiden was one of my favorite bands in high school. Powerslave is my personal favorite album by them but I think that "Hallowed Be Thy Name" might be the defining metal song of all time, along with "Holy Wars...The Punishment Due" by Megadeth, "Slaughter of the Soul" by At the Gates and "Black Sabbath" by Black Sabbath.

Wally Wood drew her really HAWT.
"Prodigal Son" is my favorite song of theirs with Paul Di'Anno. As for my favorite line-up and era, it's really just anything with Bruce Dickinson. His first time with the band was great, then he and Steve had different ideas about what the band should be and he left. Not ten years later, though, he came back. It took a couple of studio albums, but I think they're as good now as they have ever been. A Matter of Life and Death and The Final Frontier fit right in with Powerslave and Somewhere in Time.

They're one of my favorite bands. Without them I doubt there would be Power Metal. They brought the raw power of Judas Priest together with punk and prog, and did something new with the fantasy based, literary lyrics of Dio, which laid the groundwork for bands like Manowar, Accept, and Helloween.

I hate to be a prick about this but Accept and Iron Maiden were contemporaries-they had their first stable lineups in the mid '70s and even released their respective debut albums the same year(1980).
I'm glad that you brought up how influenced by progressive rock Maiden was though-I know they cite Yes and Genesis as influences, which I think would have been kind of rare back then.
