It's a Mentalist Holmes thing.

I don't usually watch CBS procedurals, save Blue Bloods.

But that's a good little mystery. See I came from the Chandler school of mysteries don't have to make sense but now I'm interested in the problem solving stuff.

Whew! I'd completely forgot about the whole Mark Waid writing the Amazing Spider-Man/ Daredevil crossover thing, and didn't ask my friend for a loan of his copy. But he put it in the stack for me anyway.
Spidey/DD team ups usually make for good reading

Fairy Tale pitch in. Now I have till the end of submissions to see if I come up with anything for Ghost Stories or Crime. :)
I fell asleep last night before I could check my e-mails so we'll see what pitches have landed since then

I'm still wondering whether to submit something for Pulp, I'll mull it over tomorrow when I've actually had a good nights sleep and I'm not at work

What the fuck is a Red John?

T'was pretty damn good. I'm glad I didn't miss it, though not knowing what was going on with Peter Parker's life, I pretty much skimmed everything that was "him" centric. But Waid did a bloody good job of making it friendly to readers of just his Daredevil run. It makes me more excited for his other crossover soon.
Damn...forgot about the Spidey/Daredevil crossover. Was is a required read for the setup of the new Daredevil issue?

I'll wait till my dad falls asleep.

Will probably try G.I. Combat. The War That Time Forgot, The Unknown Soldier, and The Haunted Tank are all weird war properties that I can't resist. And the creative teams are good.

Shame about Olivetti though. I'm not personally a fan of his art, but he's been around a long time, and has his fans. It definitely sounds like this wasn't a fun experience.

I have to say though, if the translation is accurate, I don't like that he slammed the writers who were brought in to clean things up towards the end of Iron Machine 3.14159265. It's not their fault they had to work with what they were given. There are some things that nobody could spin gold from. I don't care how talented a writer they are.

Damn...forgot about the Spidey/Daredevil crossover. Was is a required read for the setup of the new Daredevil issue?
I'd say yes. The ending is a cliffhanger that leads directly into the next issue of Daredevil. It focuses more on Spider-Man, obviously, but if they'd slapped a "Daredevil 7.1" number on the cover no one would've blinked at it.

Just read all three Jason Aaron Marvel releases from last week. Wolverine was fun as hell, and Wolverine and the X-Men was even better.

I really have to say though, I'm not in the least bit impressed with where the Hulk is going. I love Jason Aaron, but I just don't think he's a good fit for the book. And the art isn't helping matters either.

Ah well, there was bound to be a book he did that I wasn't a fan of eventually. Good track record so far I say :)

Not too bad. Keeping busy too thanks to Grayhaven. Catching up on comics right now while my girlfriend is playing American McGee's Alice on the PS3.

No. I dropped the book because of the way it was delayed mid-arc in favour of Millar's unnecessary Ultimates arc.

So among the books I read this week, Whisper and Last of the Greats were fantastic. Both were very different shades of creepy, and it was my first time reading a Luna book. The art was extremely gorgeous and the story was sweet. And I'm not sure what kind of place Josh is writing from, but it's working for him so far. And the art from Brent Peeples is badass. I wish people would pick up this book so it'd continue... :?

pretty sure it's set in WW2.

Vertigo did an update of Haunted Tank recently set in the Iraq war, though. And The Unknown Soldier, which is also in the book, also had a modern Vertigo update. So I really don't know what they'd do.

How old are you?

My family went, literally, two weeks before I turned 21. They were astonished when I told them I wasn't going. I told them screw it, I'm throwing a massive party for myself, it's not worth it (which I did, and it was a much better decision). If I'd been 18 or 19, that would have been one thing. But two weeks before 21? Screw that.

I'd say yes. The ending is a cliffhanger that leads directly into the next issue of Daredevil. It focuses more on Spider-Man, obviously, but if they'd slapped a "Daredevil 7.1" number on the cover no one would've blinked at it.

It sounds much funnier in Spanish, but yes, the translation is accurate.

Good to know. I didn't get into it when it started, but maybe I'll check out the DVDs when I can. :)

Like Holmes, he uses his people observation skills most of all and is the smartest guy in any room he's in. He knows it, too, but he's haunted by a horrible event in his past, so that gives him his human side. Very well acted, I might add, almost perfect casting for him, really. Red John's idenity is the best ongoing prime TV mystery right now. Best part is the producers have said the serial killer Red John is someone viewers have met before. Whether that's a series regular or a previous episode villian/guest star, is part of the fun.

Hmmm.

I'm not sure Savage Hawkman would be the best choice for him. The character has been hurting for a solid comeback (one continuing from BD) and I'm under the impression that Liefeld won't be able to give him that much needed boost. The character is probably going to be hurting for a while.

Still. I wish him well in his continues success and sorry that Hawk & Dove got cancelled since he seemed to be really excited to be back working on them.

To be fair to Austen, some of his creator-owned work and out-of-continuity work like War Machine is actually pretty good.

It's when they give him in-continuity material to work with, is when it gets dicey. His runs on Avengers, X-Men, Superman are bizarre and leave a bad taste in my mouth.

Why don't creators come by more often? :(

The board as a whole doesn't tend to get into comic talk as much, some people tend to treat creators like shit (whether it's directly or in comments in a thread), they're busy and the more creators interact on forums the greater chance there is of them saying something that people will take offense to or anger their bosses.

If you're charging a dollar more for the same amount of content as your competition, that's bad enough. A dollar more for less is just getting insulting.

For 28 pages of story, no?

There have been a few issues of JL or Action where I wouldn't say the backup content was "Story", per se, but that seems to be ending as of late. But when DC does $3.99 books lately, it's always with bonus stories.

Midtown Comics didn't have it on their order form either.

I want to believe that Geoff Johns and Jim Lee are going on a wacky cross-country adventure to deliver them personally.
that would be awesome to read

Yeah, that was my thought as well.

Although it does seem to be running into some trouble on Jim Lee's end, given the two fill-ins in between the first two arcs.

If it means another 6 issues in a row from him, possibly more then I don't mind

Read comics!

Batgirl was enjoyable as always. Love the dialogue and that we're getting some new villains for Barbara

The first issue of Scarlet Spider was very enjoyable. I liked that Kaine's mindset hasn't been completely fixed despite his change of appearance. Art was really nice and the catch up at the back was cool but it was funny to see so many complex stories packed into like 4 pages:)

Amazing was good but I think for some reason Waid writing Peter just doesn't work. I love some of his other comic stuff but with Spider-man it seems like trying to fit a triangle into a square shape.

I am looking forward to the conclusion in Daredevil

Mister Mets
01-14-2012, 09:26 AM
Don't forget Deathstroke too.I think he's an okay enough fit for Deathstroke.

The book is currently about a hitman who kills super-powered people in entertaining ways.

Rob Liefeld can handle that.

Grifter involves an alien conspiracy, so that requires a writer who can handle complex narratives.
I don't know if Liefeld's a good fit for that.

He might do okay on Hawkman, though. The hero is arrogant and violent, which fits what I know of Liefeld's writing.
