I refuse to let this be the board where someone posts once a week. Kelly Sue deserves better than that! YOU deserve better than that!

It's my fault! I haven't had the time to give the place the attention that I had planned.
I suck.

Don't blame yourself! Blame us! That's what we're here for. Haven't you been paying attention to how Bendis does it?

I'm up for a little loud and raucous debate on the sorry state of Russian Comics, if anybody knows anything about Russian comics, which I of course don't. Either that...or we could busy ourselves with why she isn't working on the DC reboot.

I don't know anything about Russian comics, either! But ignorance shouldn't stop two comic fans from having a debate! It never has!
We could talk about 80s movies. I watched Sixteen Candles the other night and was really surprised at the amount of racism and sexual assault in that movie. Jake Ryan is kind of a douchebag.

Oh good god. I will paypal you ONE AMERICAN DOLLAR if you will be in charge of our NOT having that conversation, please...?
I know bupkis (sp?) about Russian comics, but I'm willing to learn.

I think I've watched Sixteen Candles, but I'm not sure. I'm the eldest of four siblings and my cousins were either too old or young to be of pop-culture-introducing use, so I've had to so a lot of catching up and sharing.
All of which is me adding some sound & fury but signifying nothing, and avoiding admitting I first watched The Breakfast Club earlier this year.
It's weird, because it's something that's referenced so much I basically knew it. Similar experience to watching Seven Samurai.
End ramble, except to say I'm also very interested in Russian comics.

My wife had a similar experience watching Animal House. She says she was surprised at how much of the movie she knew without ever having seen it.
I was blown away when we first got together at how few of my personal "classic" movies she had ever seen. She had never seen Jaws, or Blues Brothers, for example. Last night, in fact, she made the mistake of telling me she'd never seen Big Trouble in Little China, so I made her watch it.
Jenny: "This is RACIST."
Me: "You mean it is AWESOME."
Jenny: "No, racist. John Carpenter doesn't know anything about Chinese people."
Me: "He knows they're inscrutable and have mystical powers and martial arts skills! Stop talking mean about John Carpenter!"
Part of the problem is that I worked my way through college at a video store. So I've pretty much seen every film released between 1975 and 1996.

I had the same problem with my girlfriend. We went to see Airplane! in Bryant Park this past Monday and she didn't know ANY of the classic lines. She was like how am I suppose to know them and I was like because at one point you were 13. She has never seen Blues Brothers either.
It boggles my mind that someone could have gone though life without seeing certain films. Maybe I just watched too many movies growing up

My wife explained to me that what I considered "classics" were, in fact, "boy movies". and then went on to make me feel bad for not liking Merchant-Ivory films.

Just to flipside this on gender lines - my girlfriend wanted to show me some early UFC fights that she liked (she's a capoeira fiend), but I was too squeamish to watch.

The lesson here is to treate her well, or else she'll kick your head clean off of your body.

Understandable, given the events of the day. But the rest of the denizens of this board have no such excuse. We should be here for your entertainment.

Thanks, I showered. Just for you, Travis.
As you know I've been consumed with the tragedies at work, but this week has seen some relief and distraction. Currently prepping for a get away next week in Las Vegas for a conference in which I will be presenting a breakout session. And THEN (gonna name drop here) will be meeting with the Assistant Secretary of Labor, Joe Main and other government agency types at a private function away from the conference. I'll be the spokesperson for the Western Region states during the meeting. I was honored to be chosen to represent. They'll regret it later, no doubt.
The following week, I am totally screwing the pooch. I got this gig as a guest speaker at a meeting for an industry group. Get this...I speak for 30 minutes and they are not only paying me for my time, but flying me and mine to the Napa Valley for the weekend, all expenses paid at the Silverado Country Club. Great gig, not common at all but this is the business model I want to follow when I retire. Hey, a guy can dream.
Yeah, it's not comics related or anything fun, but it's what I do. And if you know me (some of you do) I'm not bragging, I am just super jazzed at the opportunities and stuff that's happening in the next couple of weeks.
Oh yeah - Kelly Sue...will your story arc on Supergirl appear as a TPB? I missed an issue and Susan was reading it. Like to get her the entire story. Thanks.

Mesage points developed and delivered. Pow-wow with agency types all set. The conference is good, so far. I will be presenting on Wednesday and then home.
Went to a magic shop in town (Las Vegas this week) and met some older magi who remembered me from long ago...read my articles and even one guy saw my performances at the Magic Castle. One guy claimed to actually have some lecture notes I provided to attendees at the local magic club lectures. My goodness it was so long ago. One guy is sending me one of the books I co-authored to autograph. It was weird to be reminded of this whole other life of mine. Humble brag? Maybe. No, very likely but it was just odd to run into these guys and dredge up those memories. Not a glory days kinda thing...more of an Auld Lang Syne
feel to it all.
We shared a few quips and I picked up a few things I needed for next week's speaking engagement. Another odd thing was to be practicing stuff in front of a mirror. Last time I did that, there was a much younger man looking back at me.
This is going to sound very trite and old geezerish, but I am here to tell you, time effin' zooms by at a speed impossible to imagine. But you only realize it after the dust has settled and the race is just about over.
