I bought this mostly for the pretty pictures...boy was I surprised that the story was better than the art (I was dissappointed with the art)

I particularly enjoyed the implications of what "caused" Tony's alcoholism, has his relationship with this father ever been expanded upon in the regular series?

There seemed to be something wrong with the art I thought, it looked like it was stretched vertically or something. But I did like the story.

. . . has his relationship with this father ever been expanded upon in the regular series?

Can't say for sure, but Stark was only about 15 when he lost his parents.

how did that happen?

for some reason I'm drawing a blank on Tony Stark, the early years

The only thing that I am sure of is that they depicted this in Avengers: Timeslide. Seems like they were murdered by a time traveling villain who was later revealed to be a Space Phantom. Highly unlikely, I know, but when the Avengers arrived in the past, Jarvis recalled that it was the day that the Starks would die, thus it seems likely that they meant untimely demises not unlike the parents of Bruce Wayne. Most of what went on in The Crossing era has been completely disregarded by all other writers, but I do not know of this issue being addressed elsewhere. There is plenty of Iron Man material that I have not read, hopefully someone else knows something about it.

I'm really glad these House of M tie ins are turning out so well. The ones for Dissassembled (except for Thor) were a train wreck.
