That Fear Itself cover may be the least enticing superhero comic cover I've ever seen. "In this issue: Wolverine comforts Spider-Woman as Earth's Mightiest Heroes quietly deal with existential baggage! 32 pages!" Fucking Identity Crisis covers weren't this bland. Even superheroes weeping like a kid with a skinned knee is more interesting than superheroes quietly pondering an unjust universe. I have no expectation that the insides will be this boring. The 2 issues I've gotten to read so far (mail order ruins everything) were cool comics, I'm not slagging on the series, but that cover is a huge mistake.

I really liked these covers, tho':

Was typing out a list of what I was going to be getting and have decided I need to drop a couple books, especially with a lot of the DC stuff I will be picking up. There is just too much double shipping of books for my taste (12 titles that I normally get), makes it so I miss out on other books I would like to try.

Alpha Flight #4
Thunderbolts #163
Thunderbolts #163.1
Avengers #17
New Mutants #31
Avengers Academy #19

Invincible Iron Man #508
Black Panther: The Man Without Fear #523

Uncanny X-Men #543
Ultimate Comics Spider-Man #1
Ultimate Comics Spider-Man #2
Ultimate Comics X-Men #1
Ultimate Comics Ultimates #2
Ultimate Comics Hawkeye #2
Amazing Spider-Man #669
Amazing Spider-Man #670
Herc #7
Herc #8
Venom #7
Secret Avengers #17
Captain America #3
The Mighty Thor #6
Hulk #40
Hulk #41
Daredevil #3
Daredevil #4

X-Men #17
X-Men #18
Uncanny X-Force #15
Wolverine #15
Wolverine #16
X-Men Legacy #255
X-Men Legacy #256

Maybe but probably not as this is the first event I've been skipping out on the minis and I'm thinking Spider-Island is going to be a skip for me...maybe in collected format if I hear good things.

Fear Itself Uncanny X-Force
Fear Itself Wolverine
Spider-Island: Avengers #1
Spider-Island: Cloak & Dagger #2
Spider-Island: The Amazing Spider-Girl #2
Spider-Island: Spider-Woman

7 of my regular pulls are double shipping: X-Men, X-Factor, Amazing Spider-Man, Ultimate Spider-Man, Thunderbolts, Black Panther and Daredevil. Additionally, I really want to pick up that Drac vs. Hulk mini, and that's double shipping. Guys, this makes it really, really tough to try new books.

I agree- I can't afford to try anything new, even Marvel! Because Avengers Academy, Thunderbolts, and Herc have/will be double-shipping, it goes over my monthly budget, so I'm forced to cancel the titles if I want to keep reading things like New Avengers (THREE issues in Sept!)

I agree. I recently cut Avengers Academy, Heroes for Hire and Herc because of double-shipping. There are other Marvel books I would like to try but the constant double shipping cuts into my budget. When 10 regular comics becomes 20 (or more if they throw in a .1 issue) things gotta get cut!

On a side note: SIEGE HARDCOVER! YAY! It will collect about 7 extra issues of comics I'll already have in two other hardcovers and cost 40 bucks? Aw man...

Yep. I find that the books I have less patience for are getting cut quicker, and some just aren't getting tried. Journey Into Mystery sounds really interesting this month, but, with DCBS, I'll have to order 6 issues before I read my first.

Its annoying that Seige wasn't an omni. Toss in a couple more of the tie in minis and it could have been a monster.

It's also not like Marvel is cutting issues elsewhere (e.g. releasing less miniseries or one-shots), and I thought that was one of the main complaints from both retailers and readers. Don't flood the market with as many random (pointless?) miniseries and give us more issues of our favorite series. Of course, some of these series are not just double-shipping for one month. X-Men: Legacy, X-Factor, and Hulk (to name a few) have all double-shipped at least two months in a row.

I pick up 4 x-books a month: X-Men, Uncanny X-Force, X-Factor and Deadpool. In my last DCBS order, they ALL double-shipped. And it kills me because I love all 4 of them.

I've been reading Marvel (and a large array of Marvel titles) for over 20 years, and lately, I've become less and less enthused about its output (and some of the marketing and publishing decisions). It kills me, but part of me feels like I should just cut Marvel completely from my reading list. With me trying out all 52 titles from DC in September, it seems like it's even more of an incentive.

I understand wanting to keep the SIEGE book all Bendis, but it's not like there isn't a precedent for 4 issue hardcovers. If they must charge 40 bucks I would rather it be padded out with scripts and art. The Civil War hc had a ton of scripts, variant covers, etc. The New Avengers and Dark Avengers hardcovers (due next month, I believe) contain these issues.

Granted, I haven't read SIEGE, or these issues. They may be pretty integral to weaving a giant cohesive story. Whatever the case, it isn't that big of a deal. And the completest in me isn't skipping on the final act of Bendis' Avenegers epic!

I feel your pain.

I used to have a decent sized reading list from Marvel.

But since coming back, only a few really got me interested. Since that time, the few titles I read had either been cancelled or ended and now have a new volume starting up (again). For better or worse, Marvel actually did the job for me, and when I look through the solicits, I'm just feeling indifferent about everything I'm seeing.

It's getting tougher and tougher for me to really stay engaged with these characters when there are other stories that are giving me more of what I'm looking for without them resorting to multiple issues in a month, price increases, or any number of other promotional stunts.

And honestly. I've been a lot happier.

I wanted a Secret Invasion omnibus instead of Siege. Secret Invasion + plus all the tie-ins from New Avengers and Mighty Avengers would make a great collection.

I keep wondering if the new USM is still going to be Peter Parker, but with him trying to play dead so that everyone, including Nick Fury does not know it is him. This is all from someone that stopped reading the book soon after immonen first started though.

Nick's UXM looks interesting. I wish they had taken the opportunity to put Wolverine jr in the brown and tan though.

They will probably still do that once they have milked as much money as they can off the standard collection. This way some people buy both.

people really need to stop complaining about the double shipping of certain books, i know its sometimes finanicilly hard espicially for the 3.99 books, but for some of the 2.99 books if we get 16 issues a year its 48$ dollars same as 12 issues a year at 3.99, no matter how hard they try the days of the 2.99 comic wont be around much longer. Also if you really look thru the preview catalog besides a few of the fear itself minis and espicially the x-books are doing way way less limited series and one shots than 6 months ago, there used to be some months with like at least 5 wolvie specials. Also a lot of the double shipping has to do with the decrease to 20 pages and page rates and making sure the creators are not losing money

What? No obnoxiously big, super expensive hard-covers? Darn! I guess the early solicits in the last previews will just have to hold me over...

Spider-Island: I Love New York looks fun.

Is that the Highwayman in Secret Avengers??? Love that guy during Jason Aaron's Ghost Rider.

I'm drooling over the Marvel Masterworks of Nick Fury. I already own the paperback editions of Jim Steranko's Nick Fury but I'd kill to own a Steranko omnibus.

I love Janet Lee's work in Return of the Dapper Men so I may pick up her Emma book.

The Spidey: Vengeance of Venom paperback looks cool. I just bought the Return of Venom paperback from the 90's which is a fun book.

Kinda surprised by Rick Remender & Tony Moore's Venom hardcover. I'd figure they'd include the .1 issue of Amazing Spidey. Oh well. But I'm also surprised that this hardcover will have a blank variant. Blank variants are pretty cool so this is the first I've heard of a hardcover doing it.

Love Marcos Martin's Daredevil cover...
