Glad we never saw them again.

How are they different from regular mutants?

And I loved in that run when Kitty Pride had knives made out of Wolverines bone claws. They should bruing those back.

It's entirely possible that I only have fond memories of them because Leinil Yu is so rad and I loved all those atrocious costume redesigns.

Aaaawful comics. Fake killing Jean in the first issue of Uncanny just to fuck with people was a pretty good indicator of what was coming.

Claremont is really fond of that idea. It's in X-Men Forever too.

Its a good idea. I wish they would give them to Deadpool-- just because.

I think Claremont has gotten worse over time.

His late 70's and 80's run on Uncanny with Cockrum and Byrne, though is amazing. The best run on X-Men ever.

He's gotten way worse over time. Anything recent, past 15 years or so, I read of his I edit out all of the captions and most of the speech and thought balloons, and I never feel lost as to what's going on.
I keep hoping that he'll recapture what made him great, but he never does. And he seems to write totally out of sinc with his artists. He regularly has caption boxes covering up artwork depicting a scene so he can describe that same scene.

Which had the greatest Rogue Gambit death scene ever.

I remember really enjoying those stories until every thing became END OF THE UNIVERSE WORLD CRAZINESS!!!

Also...I hated his characterization of Storm opposed to Xavier.

The thing that was most irritating to me was not just the Neo and some of the other dumb concepts Claremont threw out there at the time, but also the fact that Adam Kubert designed the most badass Wolverine costume ever and it didn't even get used!? Everyone else got a an updated costume except Logan. Tell me this wouldn't have been the shit:

They made Gambit leader of one group and Rogue leader of the other. That was odd.

Cable being on the team was pretty sweet though.

That looks like Ultimate Wolverine with a black mask and an ugly belt buckle.

rwsmith

But way before Ultimate X-men. And I like the belt buckle. He'd been wearing piss yellow since Jim Lee brought it back and ditched the brown and tan costume in X-men #4, so I was pumped for this change when I saw that cover. But, lo and behold, he never changed in the actual book... :(

I want to see this series come back, but be a drama about mutants who have moved away from New Orleans.

There was a certain charm to X-Treme X-Men. I mean, it was so Claremont that it became appealing somehow. I can't really recall much about anything that happened (something about finding Destiny's journals and Gambit's involved in some Australian gang war...or something), but it felt manic and stupid and Psyloche just ended up dead by the 4th issue; and Claremont was so isolated and compartmentalized away from anything else going on. Giving him the run of the place with his pet characters was fucking weird and interesting and horrible and amusing.

Then again, I haven't read any of them since burning through the trades right after it got canceled.

I really dug Claremont's second Uncanny X-Men run. Or was it his third? The issues with Alan Davis and Chris Bachalo on art. Those were some surprisingly good X-Men stories.

That was his third run, and yes, it was significantly better than his second run - but that's still not saying much, given how bad the second run is. The second half of X-Treme X-Men (outside of the godawful "Storm: Arena" story) is also surprisingly decent.

Still, not good enough to be the flagship of the franchise, but not the near-unreadable slog that the second Uncanny run and the first half of X-Treme are.

Definitely the best part of that whole run IMO. I also loved him as a member of Mike Carey's X-men team where the Children of the Vault were introduced.
