After watching tonight's finale, I can say without any reservation that Parks & Recreation has been the best comedy on television this season. I just hope they have reruns this summer so I can watch it again.

Does there need to be a best? 2010 to 2011 gave us Community, Parks, Archer, Louie, the League...man...it's actually been a good year for comedy, hasn't it?
One thing is for certain, Community/P&R/Archer makes for the 90 funniest minutes of the week. 2 hours if 30 Rock is also on form (more often than not).

Still a shame, because if we had the 30 Rock from 2 or 3 years ago, it would have been AMAZING!

Community is good. Great even. But it lacks one crucial thing...RON SWANSON!

The one thing I realized last night while watching both finales of The Office and P & R is how much The Office relied on Steve Carrell to be a funny show. True, Creed and Dwight have their moments but take away Carrell and you have a pretty weak show. P & R, on the other hand, even if you lost one of the main characters like Amy Poehler's character, it would still be a funny show due to the strengths of the other characters.
Not really sure where I was going with all of that but it's just something I noticed.

Yes.
There are a lot of great comedies on right now, but none of them have both the humor and the heart that Parks and Recs has. It's easily my favorite show on TV right now. I look forward to every new episode.

Because Party Down really wasn't 2010-2011 like he's talking about. It was Spring 2010 which is more or less 2009-2010.
I'm technically correct, the best kind of correct. Party Down was amazing but suffered due to being on Starz, which no one cares about.

Honestly, I think Community is just about perfect.
The first season started out shaky. But after that first Halloween episode, it's been non-stop hilarity. There hasn't been one bad episode, and it is more daring in terms of trying out new things than any other comedy out there. The Christmas episode this year, and the paintball episodes? Genius.

Parks and Rec blew me out of the water during season two, and hasn't looked back. For me it is the best comedy of 2010-11.
Community is fantastic, but not quite as consistent as Parks. And honestly, sometimes I feel it tries a little TOO hard. The League, Louie, Archer, Eagleheart, Modern Family and The Office were very solid this year. A great year for comedies indeed!
Still a shame, because if we had the 30 Rock from 2 or 3 years ago, it would have been AMAZING!
Yes it would. I hope 30 Rock can return to form for it's last season and go out on a high note.

They've tied the show together very well in season three. They cut loose the last piece of the show that did absolutely nothing for me, (Brandanowitz, who always seemed out of place and kind of boring on the show) replaced them with Chris and Ben, who have been a lot of fun to watch, and they've managed to balance making every single one of these characters different and extremely likable, on top of having them all mesh so well together on screen.

I have to agree. This show is so consistent in its humor and its characters all have so much heart. I DVR Community, 30 Rock, Modern Family and The Office as well... Parks and Rec is always the first show I watch. It took a few seasons but I think they hit their stride this season especially.

I disagree. Leslie is the "glue" of the show. She pulls the disparate parts of the other character moments together. Without her character the show would be too random.

Sure, if you like desperate comedy writers trying to find another angle for this show that's gone on waaay too long with the most irritating character created in the past 10 years.
I actually hope it last another 5 years just to see how horrible it gets.

If it were on any other network? Maybe. At this point, The Office's average episode could lose over HALF of it's audience and STILL be one of the highest rated sitcoms on the network. It would have to take a giant plunge, and one that big, I think would take two to three seasons at least.

Ben is the most important character on the show; he's funny in his own right but his reactions to everyone else's insanity are incredibly important. He takes that pressure off Leslie and allows her to be a bit of a spaz and a weirdo too. As funny as Tom and Andy and April are, they're much funnier paired up with a good straight man like Ben.

With Ben around, I love how Ann, who was sort of the straight woman of the cast prior, is now given free range to be just as crazy as everyone else in Pawnee. Her slow descent into pure Pawnee madness was fun to watch this season.
