The 'E cut it dividend share from $.36 (with $.12 usually waived by the McMahons) to an outright $.12. This is huge from an investment standpoint. I mean, the 'E is still paying a quarterly dividend which is good, but to reduce to pay rate that much says they need more reinvestment into the company. It'll be interesting to see how investors react.

In other news the 'E is looking for creative writers to have on staff. I assume it's to write some of the television ads or kids books or whatever, as I can't see any reason for a professional wrestling company to need a creative staff. I mean, it's real to me damn it!

If I remember correctly the documentary Bloodstained Memories has Piper ranting about the need for a creative staff to write promos for guys and how they used to just come up with their own. Well, that's fine and dandy for guys with skill like Rowdy Roddy or the Macho Man, but clearly most of the 'E's guys couldn't cut a promo if their lives depended on it. Unconscious sleep? Are you serious bro? There's no way that's what creative wrote.

Watching Impact last night in HD I was shocked at how small Sting and Anderson are. Barely any physique. While a good thing in some regards they really look like they barely do any weight training.
Plus Scott Steiner cutting promos is always a train wreck. It is astounding how much he can bungle the english language.

Steamboat Jr. Has looked very very good from what I've seen of his FCW appearances. He has all the look and ring skills and the lagacy, and even has potential on the charisma and mic side. I'd love to see a Legacy 2.0 come in and destroy Nexus and the Corre once and for all. Have the legend fathers come out and warn the heel their groups are done and their in for a world of pain if they don't just voluntarily disband now. next week The Rotundo Bros, Richie Steamboat, and DH Smith beat them down and set up the match where losers must disband. And Joe Henning turns and is a face during the match.

Of course TNA would OK it. It would mean one of their superstars getting an appearance on the bigger show. They have nothing to lose. WWE, on the other hand, really gains nothing by having Foley on the show, and wouldn't really want to give TNA any help.

So there is some basis for a reason thinking they may allow this. Although I would have been stunned since it doesn't really benefit them nearly as much as it would TNA. The office at TNA being as anti-WWE as Hogan's twittering implies I'm shocked they said okay as I'd imagine they'd view it as a concession of sorts helping out their rival. But that office is fucked six ways to Sunday so who even knows.

Interesting bit from the Stock holders meeting WWE had.
Vince was asked when he was going to "buy that company based in Nashville, TN because they have the wrong people running it. Please save the business from Dixie Carter." McMahon laughed. The stockholder said, "Stephanie has more brains than Dixie Carter has." They showed Triple H and Stephanie laughing at this development. The stockholder said that if WWE bought TNA now, there "was a shot at fixing that company." Vince said, "I don't know they are for sale." The stockholder said, "It's a 50/50 shot, they know you are loaded with money." McMahon said, "Maybe."

They do shit like that all the time, though. How many times do you see a one-time appearance from someone not under contract over the years? I wouldn't say either company gets anything really except making the moment and the Rock B-day bash a little more special. Look at the 15th Anniversary Raw episode or the Old School episode. Both shows were special and had one-time appearances from folks not on the roster, most were not announced either. The only thing being Foley is working for TNA, but Flair was at the Hall of Fame ceremony and WWE really doesn't consider TNA much of a threat so the only ones who win are the fans by giving them one of those classic "you never know what might happen on Raw" moments.

It doesn't matter how YOU look at them. Hell, you could think Pizzza Hut is really in the hamburger business but it doesn't make it so. TNA may not be the WWE, but they have a weekly television deal, they run PPV shows, they sell merchandise and have a website and all that. They may be a distant number two but they are still number two. Grouping them in with companies that draw 50 people in some podunk bar in Tupalo, Mississippi and struggle to get their shows on public access TV is delusional.

TNA will run itself out of business before Vince buys them. There's nothing to be gained from purchasing them now. They don't own any well known intellectual property that Vince would really want (as opposed to WCW, who at least owned "nWo"). At least with WCW, Vince was buying competition to prevent someone else from buying them and continuing to compete with him (remember, Vince only bought WCW after the group of investors Eric Bischoff put together pulled out after WCW lost their TV contract. They weren't interested in purchasing a company that didn't have a TV show).
TNA isn't competition, and not worth his money. He's better off just waiting for it to die so he can buy the video library for a steal.

TNA hasn't established themselves as viable competition in the nine years they've been active.
I wouldn't say that. Yes it's true they don't have the kind of money or ratings as WWE, I'm not saying that they're equal competition. I'm just saying as shitty as WWE is now and as lazy as Vince and his writers have been the last 10 years I think losing TNA would only make them worse. I mean, the way it is now despite not being on equal footing with WWE there IS another option for wrestlers to go to in North America. Sting chose TNA over WWE. RVD chose TNA over WWE. Christian and Booker T did as well a few years ago. Without any option it's pretty much just take whatever Vince offers or retire or go to Japan. Or you could take indy bookings which if you're a workhorse willing to travel a lot like Danielson can work out fine, but most WWE guys couldn't live off the measly earnings on the indy scene. While it's probably true that Vince doesn't think MUCH about TNA I guarantee there is at least some thought. They have to know that if they get TOO lazy or start really dropping fans there is always a possibility that TNA could close in a little. Without TNA at all I shudder to think what these last 9 years in WWE would have been like.

That's not competition. TNA doesn't impact (pun intended) WWE in any way, shape or form. They can't compete for TV ratings or PPV buys or live show tickets. They can't compete in merchandise or videogames or toys. That there's an option for guys to go to? Umm there's lots of options, that doesn't make it competition.

RVD, Booker and Christian electing to go to TNA doesn't mean competition. TNA's paltry 1.1 isn't cannibalizing WWE's audience. Nothing they do challenges WWE or their product (nor does it provide incentive to "be better."). That isn't happening.
Suffice to say, it's good that TNA's around for the guys who are released from WWE or who would rather have a reduced schedule, but they're not making the 'E "work harder." They never have.

That's not 100% true. The WWE was scared of TNA one time. When Hogan came and they moved the show to Monday Nights, Vince was a little afraid of the return of the Monday Night Wars. Why else would he schedule the return of Bret Hart for the same night?
But in the end, that just ended up with TNA running back to Thursdays, unable to compete with Vince in sort of way.

But in the end, that just ended up with TNA running back to Thursdays, unable to compete with Vince in sort of way.
Meltzer reported that the plan with Bret (including the day) was locked for months. His return was the first live Raw of the new year, with the plan being that they'd unload a bombshell to start 2010 with viewer momentum. Vince was never "scared" of TNA going live on Mondays. It wasn't a reactionary booking move, but rather a premeditated one.
Even if, hypothetically, Vince was wary of the effect TNA could have on their product during the second "Monday Night War" ('war' is far from applicable in this situation - a slaughter would be more appropriate), that worry would have dissipated by the next week when TNA bled almost 300,000 viewers. They fell from that 1.5 high of the first night to a 1.2 and continued to shed watchers exponentially over the coming weeks. Before they moved back to Thursday, they were doing .5's and .6's. Again, they were never competition.

I just downloaded a spot-on Vader from Xbox Live for my game and since I'm such a nerd I already had his theme on my HD. When his entrance starts I still mark out, then I get sad and remember how badly the WWE fucked up the best big man in the history of the business. He was SUCH an awesome character in WCW and Japan and even though he had a few decent moments in WWE they completely destroyed him every chance they got.
Anyway, hopefully his kid is decent. He has the right look and build anyway.

Yeah....I remember being pumped for Vader when he first came to WWE and then saw them mess up with him at every conceivable turn. Word was he was going to be given the title at one point but the idea was dropped, quite likely due to Shawn refusing to drop it to him (conflicting reports on that although it sounds right and Shawn opted to drop to Sid). Once the title reign was out of the picture it seemed they didn't know what to do with him and he floated around while they twiddled thumbs. He never had that monster mystique he had in WCW. Only for a brief period when he first came in.
But the moment that really ruined him as a monster has more to do with Hogan's ego. In one of their matches on PPV I believe Hogan no sold Vader's Power bomb. He jumped right up from it and hulked out. This was Vader's devastating finisher a move that had legit broken someone's back. Hogan acted like it was nothing and no-sold it diminishing the mystique of Vader along with it. Just one of a million reasons why Hogan sucks.

I've read this as well. If you build this amoral monster up (destroying an elderly Gorilla Monsoon upon arrival, demolishing smaller guys and [in storyline] injuring the Godwin's manager out of spite/malice, etc.) and he's defeated cleanly by the top babyface, there isn't much more you can do. His arc was supposed to culminate in a dominating title run, only for Bret to return and beat him. Shawn squashed that idea hastily. If the monster doesn't win the strap, he's been beaten and loses much of that fearful aura around him. They made a few more attempts to push him - namely in a feud with Undertaker in early '97 - but he never gained that initial momentum back.

Just finished watching all three nights of Chikara's King of Trios 2011, and as expected, it was pretty amazingly great. So many amazing matches, comedy match hilarity, touching Sweeney tributes, amazing Japanese wrestlers and legends, The "return" of the 1-2-3 kid who had the match of the whole weekend with Generico, everyone should check it out!
I remember reading articles about how Shelton Benjamin and a lot of the younger guys were into video games and it kinda rubbed the older guys the wrong way because they felt like they couldn't connect with the younger guys seeing them backstage playing on an Xbox or PS3.
It's not like the old days where guys would bond over prostitutes and cocaine.
I heard the backstage gaming as a complaint that the kids weren't watching the matches. And I can see that except for the fourth time a match has taken place on the house circuit.
I believe it was both. At the arena, the younger guys would be playing Xbox instead of watching/learning from the matches and promos. After the show, the guys would want to go back to the hotel room and play PS3 instead of Ric Flairing up the town like the rockstar-mentality older guys were used to.

The way I see it the main drama about Extreme Rules comes from the fact that the most obvious way to go had been to have Miz and Del Rio both as heel champions, one on each brand and now that they are on the same brand you have to give the shaft to one of them.
On one hand - you have Miz, who has gotten over some as champ but I feel like is just at the point where people might be taking him seriously. Plus - you just put him over at Mania - it seems counterproductive to do that and then take the title off him.
On the other you have Del Rio - he was supposed to get the title twice already and he's starting to seriously lose steam. He started off as the heel who didn't ever seem to lose and always seemed to win clean. Now he... keeps losing. It's quite counter-productive.
Now you also have to consider that Del Rio vs. Cena is the hoped for SummerSlam Main Event, according to most. Also - Smackdown has both secondary titles and honestly? It's kind of the secondary show anyway.
So - you know what I think I'd do? I'd let Del Rio win the title and either have Miz retain one last time or give Cena the title. Then make SummerSlam a unification match (if Miz retains, Cena can get the title next month - I'd probably go that way, myself). And then unify the IC and US titles into the main Smackdown title.
Also - Smackdown needs a lead heel. Daniel Bryan has lost a lot of steam and been made a bit of a joke lately. I think a heel turn would be great for him and he'd be put into a great position as a heel and work well that way. Bryan/Orton could actually work well, I think. Bryan/Christian, as well.

Yup. The 11th. And maybe last one. And most accomplished since on top of the world, tag, ic, and euro, he's also had the light heavyweight and the hardcore titles.

Cena winning felt really, really, really weird. But R-Truth/Morrison should be fun. And overall the PPV was a lot of fun even though it was a pure face love-fest which, unless you're Steve Flack getting mad at smarks, isn't nearly as fun as it should be.
EDIT: I shouldn't have to say, but I'm joking SF.

Regal and Goldust need one of the biggies and Taker/Show need the IC. Show's the only one I could see do it.
Though a Regal/Christian feud could work...possibly.

Wait, you're advocating a seven month Christian/Del Rio program? Not only is that unfeasible in a contemporary climate where there are several weekly television programs and thirteen PPVs per year, but doing so would freeze any potential main-event advancement for other guys for over half-a-year. These factors compounded with the fact that they're on different brands makes it impossible.
I love Christian and I like Del Rio, but I certainly wouldn't want to see this program continue, especially after the face defeated the heel in such a decisive manner. This should (and likely will) be the termination of the feud.

SS had been superfluous for years prior to Vince's decision to expunge it from their yearly PPV schedule. The elimination tag matches are no longer the culmination of several highly-touted singles feuds, but rather an exercise in getting barely-over talent together in two matches for a PPV payday.

Exactly. In storyline, Del Rio's had multiple chances and failed each time and Christian got his revenge for being sidelined for months by Del Rio. It's the end of their feud.
