The problem is similar to WWE's. We've built Todd up to be our John Cena, and without any real threats (really, is Gryphon a legit challenge?) we've grown stagnant, with a lousy undercard.

Because WWECW would never have been ECW, no matter how much fans wanted that. It's a magic trick that couldn't be pulled off twice. The type of show that ECW put on wouldn't work on the stage that WWE has set up. SyFy would have been like 'Hey, why isn't this show like the shows you put on for USA and The CW?" The only way it would have worked would be if it was put on like they do FCW, smaller, regional, and hidden. But that wasn't going to happen, the "ECW" name was too big for that.

This title tournament has potential as it gives us a true longterm story to follow with an inherent definite ending. The Joe/D-Von fight exemplified the variety of subplots that can develop (how you win is as important than winning), and it remind me of WCW's old top-ten contenders list that made each midcard match-up significant. If two guys, like today's Dolph and Kofi, are gonna fight every week, their feud is given meaning beyond filing airtime before their blowoff PPV match which doesn't relate to their previous free matches.

But, Jesus fuck, Joker Sting is a ruin of the main event angle.

"WWE has a lot of events, but rarely do you see something this controversial and hostile. I think people will talk about Money in the Bank for years to come. It will be a great moment for Chicago. A guy like CM Punk on live TV, you don’t know what he’ll do. I’m prepared for anything."

"It’s weird. Usually when a guy retires, we give them one last hoorah. But after what happened Monday, I don’t know. You have to wait and see. There are two more weeks. I’m interested and excited about all this, even if some of it came at my expense."

Jim Ross has posted a new blog over at JRsBarBQ.com. Below are some highlights:

"(Shawn Michaels) hit me about going on a hog hunt with him in the future on his new Outdoor Life Network show. What's better than fresh, smoked hog with JR's BBQ Sauce. HHH went on an alligator hunt with HBK this week for an episode of Shawn's Outdoor Life Network show with an air date TBA. 'The Game and The Gator' should be the title of that broadcast. I'll stick to watching 'Swamp People' and leave the Gator hunting to others."

"Mark Henry's newest persona seems to be working better than any persona the big Texan has had in WWE since he was signed around 1996. I hope that the World's Strongest Man can continue to be loud, obnoxious and nasty....sort like the drunk, young, male Longhorn fans at the annual OU-Texas football game...and see where that game plan takes him. (OU has their share of these loud, obnoxious drunks, too, BTW.) At least Mark Henry is being noticed for more than simply being able to lift heavy objects. Good for him."

"Any one who thinks that simply adding 'cruiserweights' to a TV show ala Sin Cara vs. Evan Borne is a magic formula is mistaken. Bourne and Cara had a nice, Raw match last week but would one want to see regularly if there wasn't a personal issue involved.? Watching two, talented athletes fly is fine but it won't pay the grocery tab week after week if it's simply two men with no back-story. At the same time, any one who says that cruiserweights can't help a brand earn a better TV rating or sell more tickets simply because they aren't heavyweights is misguided."

His character can be rehabbed. He's just lost in the shuffle right now. Smackdown is all emerging faces and RAW is all heels. Barrett will only be used to put guys over for the time being. He needs to be able to talk more and (I know I've said this a few times already) but he needs to LOOK DIFFERENT. I liked his look on NXT, the big coat with the different color flower every time. That was something unique. That's what makes someone stand out. Also he has the crappiest finisher on Smackdown.

Bryan Danielson should have his name changed to Max Steel. Max Steel should have a shaved head, and approximately 50 lbs more muscle mass. He should refrain from kicks and flips and go for a string of scoop slams and clotheslines. He should yell alot and raise his fists in the air in a celebration of his manly vitality and power. His post-match celebration should be to bite into a thick, large slab of raw meat and spit the contents in his fallen opponents' faces.

TRIPLE H CONTEMPLATING BUYING BLU-RAY PLAYER WITH BOX OFFICE GROSS FROM "THE CHAPERONE"
By RD Reynolds

Greenwich, CT – Less than 10 days prior to his official in-ring return to the WWE, you'd think Paul "Triple H" Leveque's mind would be on his upcoming main event with the Undertaker at WrestleMania 27. But thanks to the reported box office success of the theatrical release of his recent movie entitled "The Chaperone", he has other things to consider. Namely, what to do with all that money.

"The kids and I really want a Blu-Ray player," said the 13-time World champion. "But Steph doesn't get why we need it. She said it seems like a lot of money when we already have a perfectly functional DVD player."

Hunter stated that no matter how he tried to spin it, his wife, WWE Executive Vice President of Creative Stephanie McMahon, remains unconvinced. "I explained to her the benefits of the better picture quality, enhanced sound, and all the additional features. We went over to John Cena's tour bus and I showed her footage of 300 in both standard def and high def. But she claimed she couldn't see a difference. I think she's just being stubborn."

When asked for comment on the story, Stephanie was quick to respond what she wanted to do with the money.

"I was thinking Hunter, me, and the kids could hit Red Lobster and just break the bank. It's Lobsterfest, and I am a huge fan of that!"

When asked for details on what the no expense spared dinner would include, Steph's eyes lit up. "For sure I would start with a Lobsterita, and it's gotta be raspberry. Mom likes strawberry, but not me! Then I'd then want the best appetizer ever made: the Crab Fondue in a Breadbowl! I could eat that whole thing myself. For the main course, I've been wanting to try out the new Parmesean Lobster and Shrimp Bake. That looks really good. And to finish it all up, I'd definitely go with the Chocolate Wave. I don't stray from the diet very often, but money coming in like this doesn't happen every day, so I would be willing to do a few extra hours in the gym in the morning to compensate for the extra calories."

When informed that Red Lobster no longer offered the Crab Fondue in a Breadbowl, Steph looked devastated. After wiping away tears, she then angrily turned to her husband and said, "Fine, you get your damn Blu-Ray player. But not until next weekend when Best Buy is running their Triple Reward Zone points sale!"

TRIPLE H RETURNING NEW BLU-RAY PLAYER TO PAY FOR WRESTLEMANIA CHAIR SHOT FINE
By RD Reynolds

Stamford, Connecticut – To casual fans, one would think that Paul "Triple H" Levesque's most painful memory of WrestleMania XVII would be his defeat at the hands of the Undertaker. Those close to "The Game", however, know he lost more than just a match that night.

He lost his coveted new Blu-Ray player as well.

"You have no idea how long and hard I fought to get that thing," Triple H told fellow customers at the customer service line at his local Best Buy. "Not only did I have to convince my wife that there was a huge difference between high and standard def, not only did I have to con her into believing that the discs weren't that much more expensive, but I had to wait until we had extra 'bonus' money that wasn't already budgeted for something else."

The bonus money came in the form of the box office gross from the theatrical release of "The Chaperone" in which Levesque played the role of an ex-con turned bus driver. "That was just enough to cover not only the player, but also a copy of "Teen Wolf". I didn't want it; I really had my eyes on "300", but I knew that Steph loved any movie with Michael J. Fox. So I got that along with the player, thinking it would be a good way to get her to "buy in" to the new format."

Sadly, the player wasn't to be in the Levesque household for long. During the WrestleMania encounter with Undertaker, a chair came into play, which is strictly forbidden under WWE policy. Following the match, both Undertaker and Triple H were fined an "undisclosed amount" for "the stunt of using a folded metal chair shot to the head."

"They may not have disclosed the amount to the public," moaned Triple H, "but let me tell you, it wasn't cheap. When the notice of the fine arrived in the mail, Steph just shook her head and looked at me, saying, 'There's only one way we can cover this. The Blu-Ray player has got to go back.' I was devastated."

One trip to Best Buy later, all Hunter had was memories of what could have been..and an unwanted copy of "Teen Wolf" on Blu-Ray.

"Seriously, they wouldn't refund my money because I had opened it. When they told me that, I asked if I could get store credit instead, and those bastards wouldn't even do that. So now I'm stuck with a copy of some stupid movie I didn't even want."

Shaking his head, Levesque muttered, "I should have just taken Steph and the kids to Red Lobster instead. Damn it. Damn it all to hell!"

MATT HARDY TO HEADLINE WRESTLEMANIA 27 ON "SMACKDOWN VS. RAW 2011"
By Justin Henry

Cameron, NC - Matt Hardy has finally realized his dream, and will get to headline the 27th annual grand spectacle known as Wrestlemania.

The 36 year old TNA talent has been feverishly playing “Smackdown Vs. Raw 2011” on his PlayStation 3, and believes he has leveled up his stats enough to take out would-be champion CM Punk at the big event.

“I made Punk the champion because he said some not-nice things about my brother,” said Hardy through his website. “So after I won the Royal Rumble from the #1 spot, things are headed for a collision course between Punk and myself, because he brought my family into it. And when that match happens, I’ll be more than happy to transfer the video to DailyMotion for all to see. I’d use YouTube, but you only get ten minutes on YouTube, and that may not be long enough for all 75 Twist of Fates I’m going to hit.”

Hardy has also set up the Wrestlemania card to favor his closest allies.

“I spent a good day and a half creating my brother, Shane, and Shannon on the game,” Hardy continued. “Jeff’s going to be facing Val Venis just to show him who the better worker is. Shane’s gonna take on Shawn Michaels in an Inferno Match because it just seems right. And Shannon, who is 6’11 at his insistence, will be in a six pack challenge with five guys who are over 300 lbs. Let’s see them call him ‘Hilary Duff’ to his face now!”

Hardy also notes that his celebration after defeating Punk will be epic.

“I created Ashley Massaro, who will celebrate with me by rubbing my manly body. I had to beat my created Paul London to win her back. Paul looks funny wrestling in the dress I gave him. I took cell phone pictures; wanna see?”

So I just got back from the TNA show on Coney Island. Wow. What a debacle that was.

First off, the show was advertised to be headlined with a special appearance by Ric Flair. Well, Ric did the meet & greet for the people who paid about $100 a shot, but then no-showed the show, never making an appearance for the crowd. On the way out the door, they had Jeff Jarrett signing autographs for free at the merch table. I passed him on the way out and said "Hey Jeff, what about Ric? I'm pissed!" He looked up at me and yelled, "Yeah, I'm pissed too!" My friend then called him a slapnutz and he gave us a thumbs up.

Also, this rebranding is a fucking disatser. All night long, they kept calling it TNA. The only Impact Wrestling thing was the ring apron. As for the matches, it was a short card. An opening six man that was great, with British Invasion teaming with Robbie E to fight Red, Orlando Jordan and Eric Young. Hometown kid Red get the win. Followed by a decent ladies match where Angelina, accompanied by Winter, fought Mickie James, who won. Crimson beat Jeff Jarret, which was awful. Followed by a "eh" Dudley vs Dudley street fight, Devon went over for the hometown win. Then, there was a "20 Minute Intermission" that had to have lasted an hour. Followed the two main events, which were completely "eh": RVD vs AJ, Angle vs Anderson.

BUT...

On the way out of the baseball park, walking down the Boardwalk to ride the world famous Wonder Wheel ferris wheel, we stumbled upon this gem. I took a photo of my buddy Armando, just to make sure we could get a shot of him without getting yelled at for not paying for an autograph. Hanging out on the Boardwalk, trying to get whatever run off from the TNA show he can get...

I don't know if I've shared the full story before so here it is:

So I got a chance to go to Wizard World Chicago in like 2002, it was my first big comic show, had a great time. At the time I was probably a freshman in high school. At one point I was walking around and noticed Virgil's table. Of course I was kinda surprised, I recognized him from his WWF days with Ted DeBiase. So I walk up to his table just to say hello. He greets me and I immediately don't know what else to say, so I just looked at the crap he had on his table. I noticed one of the pictures had DeBaise in it as well as his autograph, so I pointed it out to my cousin who was with me. Next thing I know Virgil asks me my name, I told him, he then grabbed the picture signed my name and his name. He then proceeded to ask me for $20/5 (can't remember exactly). I was stunned, I was young and scared. So I coughed up the money and walked away without saying anything else.

Edit: Oh shit Joe we were at the same place! haha

virgil was at dragoncon one year having the time of his life. Some guy came by dressed as a warewolf and virgil commanded him to pretend he was trying to bite people, this went on for five minutes and everytime the werewolf prepared to attack some poor convention-goer, virgil would be shaking with anticipation, which would climax with a deep belly laugh when the werewolf would attack, it was like when you play peek-a-boo with a baby. Finally the werewolf got bored, which i dont think virgil ever would have, and walked away. Virgil then started talking to Raven about how awesome it was...

WWE has no idea how to push Johnny Curtis. Just make Curtis and Derrick Bateman a goofy, jobber tag team until one of them shines through that. They were funny on NXT but I don't think that will translate to WWE television.

Virgil found my friend and I standing outside of our hotel for WW Chicago in '04. Noticing that my friend was wearing a Triple H shirt, Virgil asked us if we were wrestling fans - to which we both responded "we used to be." He asked if we'd like to take a picture with him. Neither of us did, but it seemed like one of those charitable things he was doing, and we didn't want to rescind the offer in a fit of rudeness or whatever.

So he takes a picture with both of us, and then, afterwards, says "I usually charge twenty a picture, but you guys are alright. I'll cut it in half." My friend informs him that neither of us carry cash, and, in a moment of awkwardness, promises to destroy the pictures when we get them developed because we couldn't pay. He looked really disheartened for a second, and then asked if we had a cigarette. My friend says "will a pack settle us up?" He nods his head, so he throws him his unopened pack and Virgil takes off.

I ran into Virgil in Times Square many years ago. He saw me eating a Slim Jim and asked if I was a wrestling fan. I told him yeah, why? He asked if I'd like an autograph and I asked him from whom? He said from me. I said no. He begged. I told him to leave me alone while I started walking away. He followed after holding a picture up. I ran. He kept running and waving the picture like a knife.

Finally he cornered me in an alley and begged me to take the picture. I told him if he got on his knees I'd think about it. When he knelt down I ran.

To this day I still see Virgil sometimes following me with a picture in his hands. My friends tell me I'm imagining it but I know better.

I know better.

A steady rain fell that night, the wind whispered between the limbs of old cypress trees like words spoken thorough teeth. He was waiting for me when I returned home. It was Comic Con a few years back, a cold and arid Gotham October when I saw him. It was only a momentary glance as I passed his table, but we had locked eyes in that brief instance and in his black-brown orbs I saw a loneliness, a quiet desperation. "Would you like a picture?" He said to me as I walked by, but I kept going. There was a Bob Wayne hosted panels on the Fifty-Two Flavors of DCU where, in an attempt to cash in on their partnership with Ben and Jerry's, they were unveiling their brand new initiative "100% edible comic books" and I wanted to get in close before the toxic edible ink they used turned the aisle into a soupy river of bile and molding sugar. I just didn't have time to talk to Virgil, WWE Superstar. I was a busy man. I kept seeing him all over the place that day. Once at a line for a Oliver Coipel sketch. Once amongst the crowd at the Image booth. Once in the face of a booth bath hawking free 2-for-1 navel piercings. Once inside the rusted box of a prop zombie cage. Once standing behind me in the bathroom mirror....

This goes on for about fifteen pages and then it turns out that the narrator is Virgil all along.
