I went to the TNA BaseBrawl in Buffalo on Saturday. Nothing really special match wise, but it was a good time. Went with my Brother (who goes to just about every Pro Wrestling show that I go to), my Dad (who got me into Pro Wrestling as a child and goes to about every other Pro Wrestling show that I go to these days), my Sister (who hasn't been to a Pro Wrestling show since WCW ran the Buffalo Memorial Auditorium circa 1995 despite my best efforts) and my niece (who is 21 months old and this was her very first Pro Wrestling show). Here are my thoughts:
There was still TNA signage all over the place, but the ref shirts looked like they said Impact Wrestling and they were selling some Impact Wrestling Merchandise. It still was very much a TNA show, though.
Weather was beautiful for an outdoor show. Temperature in the 70's with a gentle breeze.
TV Champ Eric Young w/ Orlando Jordan vs. Kazarian (Non-Title)
Mostly a comedy match for the opener. I haven't watched TNA outside of the Aries/Kash/Rave 3-way, Samoa Joe/RVD match & Angle/Jarret parking lot brawl last week. I'm not sure what Eric Young's gimmick is, but he started the match by locking up with the ref. They tried to do the CHIKARA baseball comedy spot. Another comedy spot saw Jordan get in the ring all 3 guys run the ropes criss crossing with each other for like forever (really wasn't even 3 minutes. This is TNA, not Tough Enough.) Finish was Kazarian pinning Young after Young missed a moonsault.
Winter vs. Tara
Earl Hebner was the referee. They introduced him as the "most notorious referee in wrestling history." When Earl Hebner came out my Dad said, "I thought it was gonna be Tommy Young." Hebner had a shirt that said, "Damn Right I Did!" and mocked Bret Hart's entrance poses. Tara win with her Widow's Peak finish, or as the guy next to me said, "A reverse Stunner!"
Matt Morgan vs. Pope D'Angelo Dinero
Morgan won with Big Boot. (Don't think it was The Carbon Footprint boot, this was a standard Hulk Hogan Big Boot.) Not a whole lot to this match. Crowd was going crazy for Morgan.
Possible Spoiler for Impact next Thursday:
This match will air on Impact as part of the Bound For Glory Series. If I were judging I'd award Matt Morgan a gentlemen's 3. Why not?
Gun Money (James Storm & Alex Shelley) w/ Robert Roode vs. The British Invasion (Doug Williams & another guy)
I went with my sister & niece to the concession stand and didn't get back until past the halfway point. Storm and Shelley tried to do a signature Motor City Machine Guns spot, but instead of a drop kick Storm did an eye poke. Roode came in and interfered even though he was wearing a sling. Shelley Storm won after Storm did a move and then Shelley did a top rope move. Or something. I can't remember. Niece was distracting me. Crowd sure loved Beer Money.
20 Minute Intermission. Good thing we went to the concession stands while we did. There was a pretty good crowd (I'm horrible at estimating crowd sizes, but let's just say 1,000 for a BALLPARK figure. See what I did there?)
AJ Styles vs. Gunner
Dueling "Let's Go AJ/Let's Go Gunner" chants. Seriously. Match was pretty good, probably the best match on the show, largely because of AJ Styles. Finish was AJ Styles going for his springboard forearm, but Gunner pulled the ref in front of him so AJ had to reset. When AJ went for it the second time Gunner caught him in a fireman's carry and hit him with the F5 for the pinfall victory.
Potential Spoiler for Impact:
This match will air on Impact as part of the Bound For Glory Series. If I were judging I would award Gunner 5 points. Just 'cause.
MAIN EVENT
Kurt Angle vs. Scott Steiner w/ Ringside Enforcer: The Immortal Hulk Hogan
Hogan came out first to a solid pop. I gotta admit, it was really cool seeing the Hulkster in person, but also kinda sad seeing him hobbling around. My dad got his Father's Day gift as he got to see one of his favorites, Scott Steiner. His other favorites are La Parka and Austin Aries. (Largely based on the fact that A-Double got dumped over the barricade and landed on my Dad at an ROH show in Mississauga 2 years ago. For this show, Dad was wearing an Austin Aries shirt, I was wearing a Chris Hero shirt, and my sister had a pink Kings of Wrestling shirt. We all got compliments at some point in the night.) I gotta tell you, there's nothing more exciting than watching Scott Steiner grab a live mic (Josh Barnett is a close second). Steiner cut a promo about stealing all the guys in the crowd's girlfriends and keeping them on leashes and things of that nature. Kind of a nothing match built around Steiner tossing Angle outside and then distracting the ref while Hogan through some weak punches and threw him into barricades and tables. They botched a spot early in the match when Angle was supposed to duck a clothesline, ahem- STEINERLINE and Steiner still tagged him. Beer Money came out and chased Hogan away and for the first time in roughly 7 years Kurt Angle won a match via pinfall after the Olympic/Angle Slam.
Show ended with Fireworks (Pro Tip: Niece does NOT like loud noises) and for $20 you could get your whole group's picture taken with Kurt Angle and Beer Money in the ring. It looked like a lot of people took advantage of that deal, while we just headed for the gate. Matt Morgan was signing on the way out, so my sister got her picture taken with him.
All in all, not a great Pro Wrestling show, but it was a fun time. The crowd was pretty hot all night and my niece made it all the way to fireworks without having a meltdown. Live Pro Wrestling with his 3 kids and Granddaughter was a pretty good Father's Day gift if I do say so myself.

Not even Austin Aries could get me to watch this week's Impact. Sorry Austin
A-Double was good enough for me. Now that TV Season is over there's an open tuner on Thursday night's so I DVR'd Impact. I fast forwarded through most of it. Basically, I just watched the Aries/Rave/Kash 3-way, Samoa Joe/RVD and Angle/Jarrett. It ranged from Pretty Good to Not Bad.

Remember when warmly-regarded cripple Kurt Angle and the man who main-evented WCW in 2000 Jeff Jarrett feuded for six months consecutively, had several stip matches (including a ladder match to decide who is granted custody of Kurt's kids), wrestled a straight-match for the blow-off where the winner receives a shot at the World Title, and then the program resumed the next night when Jeff Jarrett came out and shouted some stuff at Kurt through his half-southern/half-muppett accent?
What I'm saying is, if TNA only knew about Social Media, they could've remedied that!
Shane should run all the wrestling everywhere. Kurt Angle should have custody of all homeless children. Living life.

Piping in chants and cheers and boos, taking away signs they didn't like and even passing out planted signs, giving out tons of free merchandise to fans who would be on camera, but even TNA as dismal as they have been lately wouldn't just offer money to a couple of no-name nobodies at a house show. Your "friends" are about as reliable as their website.

Chikara had a match on one of their most recent DVDs where Chuck Taylor and UltraMantis Black battle outside the building onto a playground, where Chucky T proceeds to go down a slide right into a chop from Mantis. This moment is now the new pinnacle of wrestling, step aside Andre being slammed by Hogan.

That's cool. One of the finishes to a backyard match I was in had my opponant end our match by hip tossing me into a swimming pool, diving on top of me and giving me a Camel Clutch underwater. I submitted in about one second because I was so winded from our match and the water took my breath away so the second he pushed me under I started sucking in water. We really didn't think that ending out.

I was gonna watch Capitol Punishment at Buffalo Wild Wings, but they were having trouble ordering the PPV so I went to the nearby Walmart and bought the WCW Nitro DVD. Just watched the first disc and so far I'm loving it, although I thought it was odd to throw in the Rey/Malenko 10 min draw on at the end. I'm sure they've had better matches on Nitro. Maybe they just put it on to fill out the first disc.

I just hope we see Dolph Ziggler trading a win with Kofi, Swagger get beaten up somehow, Truth dressing funny, John Cena saying "poo," "doodoo" or "narf," Miz make the same facial expressions as every sorority girl ever, Alex Riley marching to the ring, thus confusing everyone as to which one's Miz, a Diva segment that features the talents of Kelly Kelly, a tease of Zack Ryder, which ultimately leads to another Cena segment, and maybe an 8 minute, multi-segment Santino match (non-comedy). If I'm really lucky, there may be several horrible comedy skits interspersed throughout the show; all of them involving Hornswaggle.

That's what I hope for.
I hope we learn that "Lawler's dream" wasn't just a month long promo segment for Capitol Punishment, but rather a new recurring segment. I can't wait to see what he's imagining this month!

http://www.lordsofpain.net/news/wwe/Latest_on_Plans_for_Tyson_Kidd_New_WWE_Diva_Debuti ng_as_His_Manager.html
The current storyline with Tyson Kidd having different managers on WWE Superstars is being done to eventually get him back to the SmackDown roster as a top mid-carder with the idea that he needs a mouthpiece to talk for him.
Kidd's manager will likely end up being a new WWE Diva. FCW Diva Maxine was scheduled to come to SmackDown weeks back but they held her debut off because they felt it wasn't the right time. This isn't confirmed but it's possible Maxine will be Kidd's new manager.

I can't wait for this alleged Tyson Kidd midcard heel push. He can stay in a perpetual stasis with other midcard prospects like Cody Rhodes, Ted Dibiase and Wade Barrett!
Here's what the "push" will entail:
Tyson beats Trent Barrett on week one.
For week two, he'll get DQ'd in a rematch for refusing to release a choke hold (or something equally uninspired/boring/lame/sad/adjective) and beat him after the bell (this makes him look vicious).
He'll trade wins with Bryan Danielson for two weeks, which acts as the set-up for a Sin Cara (AmDrag's best bud as of, uh, last week or something)/Tyson Kidd match on PPV. Kidd will lose.
Kidd will quickly become relegated to the position of prelim jobber. The girl tasked with acting as his mouthpiece will just inexplicably stop escorting him to/cutting promos for him. She'll be placed in Diva's matches without explanation. No one will care.
Throughout the duration of this push, Vince will be unaware that this guy exists; when he approves each of the scripts and arrives at the Tyson segment, he'll scoff because this mother fucker's a skinny midget with cum-stick hair.

Sadly I think the only thing he has going for him right now is that he is dating Natalya and was trained by Bret Hart.

I like Kidd. He has charisma, though it doesn't necessarily manifest in mic skills, but that can be overcome. When I think of him, I get misty-eyed for the last time I was truly excited (beyond tinges/glimmers of hope) about WWE's product (sans the beginning of NEXUS, because that was pretty cool).
It was just after the draft in '09. Smackdown was so good in its simplicity and streamlined scripting, and there was such a consortium of talent there. Punk had just turned heel, and he was in the midst of that killer headlining feud with Jeff Hardy for the World Heavyweight Championship. Immediately underneath them was the Jericho/Rey feud for the Intercontinental Championship. Batista returned and started his 'Douche-Tista' turn.
In the undercard were an eclectic mix of promising, newer workers. Like, Morrison, Dolph, Tyson and Drew were mixing it up. Both Morrison and Rey had 4 star plus matches with Tyson Kidd on Superstars that summer. That was the same summer where Morrison and Hardy had a televised WWE Title match that actually moved ratings, and Rey/Morrison killed it with an IC Title bout.
That was the best SD had been since the '02-'04 period. A brand with 'new gen' guys like Cody, Tyson, Wade, Sin Cara, Sheamus and Danielson, hell, even 'ZEKE could really be cool if they booked the mid/undercard with the same level of interest as the Christian/Orton program.

It's still unreal to think that, just two years ago, Smackdown was headlined for a whole summer by Jeff Hardy and CM Punk. Moreover, that feud actually generating higher-than-average ratings for the show during the time.

Remember that awful Edge/Kane feud that lasted three months, and was built up by Edge (the face) abducting Kane's helpless, comically obese father, tying him to a chair and torturing him? Then, we're supposed to jeer Kane (the heel) for caring about his dad because he cuts promos with ominous music blaring from the PA system!
They should do that, but with Christian/Orton!
