Over the last few years I don't have any memories of really good April fools jokes maybe in Today's Internet dominated world they are so quickly debunked it's hard to do a really good one.

The one that has always stuck in my mind since I first saw it on a documentary about April's Fool Day was from 1957 when the BBC's Panorama program featured The Spaghetti Harvest

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=27ugSKW4-QQ

We were a less sophisticated nation as we proved when the BBC were flooded for requests of where to by Spaghetti plants.

Anybody else have examples a great April fools day news items?

The Left-Handed Whopper was a good one, especially since thousands of people went to Burger King to order it that day. Here's the press release: LINK (http://www.zbach.com/page%2025/whopper.htm).

Actually that's not bad, in fact I or my table does end wearing much of a Whopper when I have one.

I did forget about the Australian Show that announced Australia was adopting Metric time (http://blog.televisionau.com/2008_03_01_archive.html)

Back when Albert and I moderated the Spider-Man message board over at Comicboards.com, one April Fool's Day, we turned the board into this:

April Fool's Day is the one day a year that people show how painfully unfunny they can be. That having been said, there was a pretty good one at our work this morning. Someone covered everyone's computer mouse with a small piece of paper and tape that said "April Fools." I spent about a minute trying to figure it out before noticing. Two other people rebooted their computers. I'm pretty impressed, because we still don't know who did it.

A couple that I've liked:

-When the board became "Millar World" for a day.
-Kodak's "Scratch and Sniff" photos last year.

Wow, i guess it was 11 years ago now, I was writing for Comic Book Galaxy and came up with the gag that CrossGen had purchased the site and was moving the entire staff to Tampa to only review CG books.

A few people believed it.

Seriously, do it. I usually hate April Fool's Day for all the fake news stories and such ("Nintendo bought by Sony!!!1!"), but this was really good. One guy just started yelling about how it took him ten minutes, and, if our president got pranked too, he'll be stuck for 6 hours.

The sad thing is, I can see some towns in the Chicago area actually doing that.

I posted this a couple years back at Oni. (http://www.onipress.com/blog/?p=177)

The funny thing was how many people thought it was for real. We were getting calls and emails for comment. I had to clarify it just to stop the pestering.

There was never one before and there's not been one since. Fans of those particular monkeys are pretty much out of luck.

 This practical joke was perpetrated by a college student in Minnesota:
When a hapless roommate returns to his dorm room and unlocks the door-- the door flies across the room and clamps itself to the open window!

How was it done? The victim's roommate removed the door hinges, used a mattress as a counterweight (dangling it outside the window on a rope), tied the other end of the rope to the door knob with a slip knot-- and waited. Click, whish, BANG!

ADVANCED VARIAION:
If you thread the rope through a large screw-eye in the corner of the door, the humorous impact is amplified-- by increasing the odds that the door will fly all the way through the open window!

Here's one I did this year you guys might appreciate. By way of explanation: my day job people keep telling me not to quit is working at the university bookstore at Yale, where we have lots of pictures of famous alumni hanging off of pillars, like this (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v132/Fliptrick/DSC01750.jpg).

These are all of folks like the Clintons, the Bushes, the Nathan Hales, etc. Anyway, Friday morning we had a new addition to the list of famous alumni:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v132/Fliptrick/thebatmanBA.jpg

Here's the bio card I put up to go with it:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v132/Fliptrick/bio.jpg

It's staying up till the other managers notice. :D

As a weird addendum to this, no sooner had we come up with this idea than the Yale Alumni Magazine published this article (http://www.yalealumnimagazine.com/issues/2011_03/batman326.html) by Chip Kidd arguing that Bruce Wayne went to Yale.

:thumb: Good one, Spectre_General!

GETTING EVEN: The Complete Book Of Dirty Tricks (available at Amazon.com) has many nasty tricks.

 Perhaps the most memorable trick involves carefully disassembling a large light bulb without disturbing the filament, filling the bulb with feces, and replacing it in the ceiling.

The joke? When the victim enters the room and turns on the light, it heats, explodes, and paints the victim and all the walls & ceiling with a reeking coat of... well... shit! Who doesn't love a truly classy joke?
