NJ gas stations are the worst.
Having to wait for some dude to shamble over at his leisure.
That's if you are lucky and win the "attendant droopy eye spied me first outta the 7 cars waiting for 10 minutes contest."

If PT made sense around here I'd consider it.
I just don't how other states have figured it out that the world will not explode if you pump your own gas yet NJ doesn't.
And ya can't use the jobs angle cause they still have only one or two guys there and what are they doing? Well at the posting of that message watching some talk show in their little cube.
Fucking hate that.
I took an Army buddy up here in between base transfers and the dude never had someone do his gas before and he was all like tip the guy man! God, I was like are you outta your mind?

Coming home from Baltimore two years ago, I got lost in Jersey and asked a guy working at a gas station for advice. "Montreal?" he cackled. "You got a long fucking way to go." Then he walked away.

Yeah.
While not practicing fuel replenishment they second as suck ass direction givers.
Sorry, for what it's worth don't judge NJ on it's gas attendants.. or..well.. a lot of other things :)

I'm all about levels, it's not all bad. There is much out there that I don't really care about, but...
Unfortunately, being a slave to some gimpy zombie at a gas station isn't one of them. It raises the ire.

I've lived in NJ my whole life and I've never been at a gas station longer than five minutes. We've already got low gas prices and we don't have to pump our own gas (which is nice when it is raining or extremely cold out) so sounds like a win-win to me.

Is it some sort of job creation law for losers that can't get work anywhere else?

It is the cheapest gas in the country. I refuse the premise of this thread.

Huh.

Huh.
They only have full service stations in NJ. You're not allowed to pump your own gas there.

I talked to a customer from New Jersey. They claim that by law they can't pump their own gas. I don't know if I believe it or not. I used to work at a full service gas station. We were taught to respect the customers and kiss their asses. I could make an extra $100-160 in tips alone. And I ran into people who wanted to barter for gas. I paid twenty bucks one time so a guy could get gas and got three bottles of fire water. Pretty sweet. I met a lot of women there. My friend Marie called them my "gas station hussies." And I got some of those "gas station hussies" phone numbers. I hated that job..but damn a lot of fun shit went down there.

I live about 10 minutes from Oregon and occasionally forget that I'm not allowed to pump my own gas over there. Been yelled at many a time by attendants. It is a sure fire way to get them off their ass and to your car, though.

Yeah, that sounds ridiculous. If only there was some way we could verify whether that was true....

I was under the impression that this was the case for Oregon or Washington as well. It is a job creation law.

It's called "good governance" as it gives jobs to the unskilled and marginal, and costs little to the business owners. When I am in other states, I feel put off that I have to pump my own gas. Isn't there an armenian or some other weird nationality person to do it for me?

You want to research go wiki/google it yourself son. I had a customer claim to me that that the dark side of the devil was following my soul to make me host to the fifth house of hell. Doesn't mean I'm going to believe them and go research the possibility.

My mother is almost 80 years old and never learned to pump her own gas. I think she's afraid to try, at this point. We have ZERO full service stations left in our town. If I'm not around to gas up her car, she drives a ridiculous distance, to a full service station in the next town over, to get her gas. Joisey would be like Heaven on Earth to her. :)

also, don't try if a cop is there no matter how long you wait.

well those same people are there anyway. so it's not like they gonna lose out.

One of the things I liked about living in NJ. Although last time I lived there I was told it had to do with environmental issues, not employment. But, I dunno as I never bothered to actually research it.

I live in Jersey and wouldn't change a thing. I don't have to get out of my car when it's raining/snowing/windy/thunder-booming to pump gas. I don't have to walk to the store and deal with the creepy guy inside, without the protection of my car. I don't have to pump my own gas and risk getting it on my good clothes. Plus, our gas is some of the cheaper in the country.
You guys can have your self-serve, but leave us here in Jersey the hell alone!

Sorry. The pumps have rooves and card swipes. :)
Instead you welcome creepy guy into your car, letting him glare inside checking everything out, leering even. Then asking you what you want...then waiting another 5 millions hours for some gas to be pumped.

I never had a problem. The only thing I wished for was that it was like in Back to the Future with 5 attendants checking everything at once.
I think I even had a cute girl or two take care of me. :)

What part of Jersey are you pumping gas in where there's these massive lines? North Jersey, I'd guess?

Even in NE Jersey in Bergen County the lines were never very long.
In all my years living up there, I don't think I ever encountered a very long line unless it was during rush hour and the station was close to a train station or after an event.

This reminds me of that one Super Bowl commercial where the guy pulled into the full service station and freaked out and drove away.
Whenever I'm driving and may have to go through Jersey, I always wait to get there for their gas stations. Full service, and cheaper gas at the gas stations are the only things to like about Jersey.

We have 2 local full service stations here in Ohio. My buddy works at one. Most people are willing to wait a bit in order to not get out of their cars.
And then some people want both full service and fast service. Those people are twats.

Ah yes... Taylor Ham on a hard roll. I really miss diners and those piping hot Taylor Ham sandwiches you could get from them. And if desired, a niced big batch of fries with gravy on the side.
You never think about how pricless a good diner is until after you leave the state.

I live in SJ, and never have to wait more than a few seconds for an attendant to show. But then again, I have boobs. :)
