View Full Version : What's inscribed on Thor's Hammer?

"Whosoever holds this hammer, if he be worthy, shall possess the power of Thor."?

Wrong.

Haha I saw that at Target the other day. Why is it so... squishy?*

Also, it's kind of lame that on the packaging they call it "The hammer of thunder" or something like that. It has a name...

I thought it was simply "Property of Thor Odinson".

Maybe because kids can't say Mjolnir...let alone know what the crap that is.

I could say Mjolnir right as a eight year old. But than again I was reading at a highschool level at that point.

If they didn't want me to hit people with it they wouldn't have made it squishy.

That's what I'm thinking. Literally every item in the Norse world had a name. But most people would be damned if they knew that fact, let alone knew what those names were

I'm impressed that they put some sort of hazardous core inside the Hammer.

Must be Ultimate Mjolnir.

Well the names are funny sounding so they aren't helping themselves out.

I think it would be enlightening to Christians to see that their ideas of Hell are taken from a Norse goddess (the idea of it as a fiery realm of torment, I don't know exactly where they got that from. Niflhel had some of the torture, but most of Helheim was a rather boring, burt not exactly punishing, place. And some parts of it, like Hel's palace, were actually not that bad at all. ertainly Balder and his wife weren't treated poorly. They were honored guests).

What, you send them to Hel? Depends on if they fight back. If they fight back, they might end up in Vahalla.

I taught my 10 year old the name a few months back. He was cracking me up because he couldn't get his brain to tell his lips it wasn't "Mjor-nel." Took about 10-15 tries for him to get it right.

I think it would be interesting to see the reactions, but I'm not sure it would be enlightening to most. It would probably elicit a similar reaction as telling Christians that the Holy Trinity was created to appeal to polytheists while maintaining some semblance of monotheism from the Torah/Old Testament.

Of course, it might just elicit the same reaction as telling Christians that Christmas is scheduled when it is in order to conform to the holidays many already celebrated rather than any evidence of Jesus's birth. Most I've encountered either shrug their shoulders and say they don't care or just stare blankly and promptly appear to forget what was just said.
