Legendaries really aren't that different then regular Pokemon, except for that you catch them at a higher level and they are harder to catch... They can still be beaten as easily as any other Pokemon if you play their weaknesses...

Yes but they have more destructive moves, higher stats, easier to teach moves etc. There's a reason why they're banned from things like battle frontier or competitive play. I won't begrudge you from using them I'm just curious to understand why.
Black Roman
04-05-2011, 10:18 AM
That's true and not true. Legendaries tend to have much higher and more balanced stats than normal pokemon. Unless you've got a well-trained team that plays against their weaknesses, you could be in for a long battle. It IS a little cheap.
But I don't really care, just trying to make Slewo's point a little clearer for you.

That's sad. What albums do you have? Illinois probably, it's his biggest. I'd recommend getting Age of Adz and The BQE. Those two albums show his range as a musician. Plus listening to those three together is something spectacular.
It's almost as if all his albums lead into the next album in order of release. I was listening to Seven Swans today and it was a straight guitar drum album up until the last song when there were orchestral instruments, which reminded me so much of Illinois. He is one spectacular musician.

Yeah, I expect I'll want to at some point in the not so distant future. I just have a weird aversion to hardcovers. It elevates the material to something more than it is. I don't usually read comics in public, as I like to sit back and relax at home and read them. But I suppose I would if I were in a work or school enviornment. I don't think I would care in a coffee shop or on the max.

Sorry, I meant I have all the previous Essential ASM collections, not the single issues. Though I think I do have one single issue from this era. Really my hesitation comes with me feeling like Marvel is price gouging with these Essentials (on average they're like $5 more for the same content than they used to be) even though it is still relatively cheap. And I know I can get it later for just a little bit more... but.. it's Spidey. You know?

The orcs are apparently an all male society, with all the vulgarity that you'd expect to go along with that. They use severed penises as currency, and losing yours is the ultimate humiliation. Also all the technology is grotesque living animals, like some horribly mutated version of The Flintstones. It's easily one of the best ongoing comics around.

I'm not a big union guy either, and try not to really get too for or against something I can't change. Unions exist, they won't suddenly stop existing. However, Unions in the history of America have played an important part in getting workers rights we now take for granted. (In my view at least)

The overarching "teacher unions no good!" argument is invalid, as both bad and good unions are lumped into that statement.
If it weren't for unions, some teachers would have NO pay raises and NO benefits.
Why?
Because they'd have to be out fighting for the raises and benefits instead of focusing on the student.

personally I can't agree with anything that has to do with money in the teaching profession. Not really. I haven't given those other professions the same thought as I've done teachers. I've thought about teaching more because I want to be a teacher. Teaching in my view is a special profession and probably the most important in shaping young people. That is worth more than anything. Yup. Which makes me sad. My idea of the world would work better if everyone was nice and selfless.
Agreed. We can up and move to Scandinavia, but they've got issues there too. And it gets really cold.
And my wife would probably be mad for leaving her and the baby to take a teenager to the land of long-legged foreign blonds.

Stryper?
Not really. I haven't given those other professions the same thought as I've done teachers. I've thought about teaching more because I want to be a teacher. Teaching in my view is a special profession and probably the most important in shaping young people. That is worth more than anything. I don't know if I've completely come up with my stance on this subject but I've told you what I've got right now.
Why do you think you disassociate the importance with teaching with idea of seeking higher wages?
Did you finally kill Typhoid Murray?
Not yet...but soon...very, very soon.

Because that makes me think the teacher is looking to make more money instead of using that energy to teach students. I believe the money stuff makes the teacher worry about that when they should be worrying about the students and their growth. This is probably not every teacher (I know of teachers that this doesn't apply to in the slightest) but just thinking about it and how people usually are, that's what it boils down to in my world view.

personally I can't agree with anything that has to do with money in the teaching profession. I personally believe that the teacher should want to teach more than wanting to get any sort of money out of it. I also know that there are things people need to pay for so there begins my dilema and how my argument becomes invalid.
If you want to open up a free learning center one day, dude, more power to you.
Ideally every teacher would love their job. My wife does and several of her co-workers do. They don't just see it as a job and they truly enjoy what they do. I'm envious of them in that way.
But they DESERVE the money because of the job they are doing and the overtime they put in (lesson plans, district/state-mandated frivolity such as ensuring grades are posted online, grading papers). "Blah blah summers off" - yeah, maybe, but the teachers need to regain their sanity between school years and new classes, and many work for up to two weeks to get their rooms set up for the new batch of kids.
Sorry, but that's just the way it is. You can enjoy doing something and still get money out of it. Teachers are NOT in it for the money. Not in this country.

Hopefully they'll make a good one for the 3DS.

I agree with you completely. Teachers should be the highest paid workers in the world. But when we look at the teachers who have tenure and just don't have any desire to be there, that's when they should be fired.

Not really. I don't like putting things in list of best to worst. Everyone is equal in my eyes, but teachers hold a special place in my heart because of all the amazing educators I've had over the years.

I think you're creating a dichotomy that doesn't exist. You can be worried about how to pay your bills and support your family and stay anchored at a school you've grown to love and be a wonderful teacher at the same time. Worrying about your financial self interest /=/ a bad teacher.
The only way your scenario would really work is if every teacher can came from a well off family.

I probably am over thinking things and not giving people as much credit as they deserve. Hell, if someone puts in the time to become a teacher they deserve all the credit in the world.

Okay but that isn't the only the thing the union does. The union also protects teachers to speak out against principles who have cut back on education standards and invests heavily in athletics over academic clubs (as happened at my high school), it helps them get a fair wage, health care all year, promotes teachers working together and communicating and countless other things!

Don't care. It's not what I'm going into the field for. I want to make enough to live but that's about it. It's all about the vocational aspect of the job to me. Doing it for the glory of God. Which gets into another side of the discussion that no one wants to get into probably.

Used to (years ago) drink it all doctored up, and it killed me whenever the mixture was off, or if it got too cold. After switching to black, I have actually found I prefer the taste of the coffee itself, and it is so much easier not to futz with.
Not that you, in any way, needed to know that about me. But there you go.
