A US radio station claims to have discovered the holy grail of soft drinks -- the secret recipe for Coca-Cola, news.com.au reported Tuesday.

The website for Chicago public radio show This American Life states it found a list of ingredients for Coca-Cola, a secret that has been closely guarded for more than a century, in a 40-year-old newspaper.

The secret recipe:
Fluid extract of Coca 3 drams USP
Citric acid 3 oz
Caffeine 1oz
Sugar 30 (it is unclear from the markings what quantity is required)
Water 2.5 gal
Lime juice 2 pints 1 qrt
Vanilla 1oz
Caramel 1.5oz or more to colour

7X flavour (use 2oz of flavour to 5 gals syrup):
Alcohol 8oz
Orange oil 20 drops
Lemon oil 30 drops
Nutmeg oil 10 drops
Coriander 5 drops
Neroli 10 drops
Cinnamon 10 drops

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It said the Atlanta Journal-Constitution published a photo of a book containing a hand-written replica of the original recipe in 1979.

The recipe, which supposedly can only be mixed by two Coca-Cola executives in the world, reportedly contains the exact measures of all the different oils needed for the drink's secret ingredient, "Merchandise 7X."

Despite making up only one percent of the drink's total formula, Merchandise 7X is what provides the unique taste. According to the recipe replica, it consists of alcohol, orange oil, lemon oil, nutmeg oil, coriander, neroli and cinnamon.

The recipe is said to be similar to previous lists made by those who have tried to uncover the secret ingredients, including Mark Pendegrast, the US author of "For God, Country and Coca-Cola," and Joe Jacobs, owner of the pharmacy where Coca-Cola was first served.

Rumored to be guarded 24 hours a day in a vault, the official Coca-Cola recipe has been one of the most closely kept trade secrets since the popular soft drink was concocted by medicinal chemist John Pemberton in 1886.

I really wish people would stop claiming to have discovered these "secret recipes". It's incredibly easy to figure out: Make it. You purport to have a recipe that you think is this big trade secret, make yourself some and taste it first. If you got it right, by all means go public. If not, then siddown and shut up.

We gotta do this. I'm just envisioning the slogans now:

Drink Bendis Cola -- As refreshing as a breeze up your jorts!

Ahhh, Bendis Cola, like a kick of flavor to your taint.

If one listens to the actual episode of This American Life, they DO make it. And then have it tested. Go listen to see what happens.

This American Life is a really fantastic show, and this episode is top notch.

I have 3 to share, and I think Bendis will like them:

Chick−Fil−A Chicken Salad

2 Cups Cooked Chicken Breast
1/3 Cup Finely Diced Celery
1 hard boiled egg, minced
1/4 teaspoon Salt
1/2 teaspoon Sugar
1/4 teaspoon Freshly Ground Pepper
1/3 Cup Sweet Pickle Relish
2/3 − 1 Cup Mayonnaise
Texas Toast or Thick Cut Sandwich Bread

Boil chicken until completely cooked. Remove from water and cool meat.
You can save the chicken broth, seal and refrigerate no more than a week.
After chicken is cool, cut into tiny pieces. Place in a mixing bowl with
all other ingredients and mix well. Butter one side of sandwich bread and
grill. Place salad in between grilled bread slices and serve.

And.....

Chick−Fil−A Chicken Sandwich

3 cups peanut oil
1 egg
1 cup Milk
1 cup flour
2 1/2 Tb. powdered sugar
1/2 ts. pepper
2 teas. salt
2 skinless, boneless chicken breasts, halved
4 plain hamburger buns
2 Tb. melted butter
8 dill pickle slices

Heat the peanut oil in a pressure cooker over medium heat to
about 400 degrees. In a small bowl, beat the egg and stir in the
milk. In a separate bowl, combine the flour, sugar, pepper, and salt.
Dip each piece of chicken in milk until it is fully moistened.
Roll the moistened chicken in the flour mixture until completely
coated. Drop all four chicken pieces into the hot oil and close the
pressure cooker. When steam starts shooting through the pressure
release, set the times for 3 1/2 minutes.

IMPORTANT!!! DO NOT CLOSE STEAM RELEASE. IT IS VERY DANGEROUS!

While the chicken is cooking, spread a coating of melted butter
on the face of each bun. When the chicken is done, remove it from
the oil and drain or blot on paper towels. Place two pickles on
each bottom bun; add a chicken breast, then the top bun. To make
a deluxe chicken sandwich, simply add two tomato slices and a
leaf of lettuce. Mayonnaise or mustard also goes well on this sandwich.

I've got the coleslaw recipe too:

Chick−Fil−A Coleslaw

6 cups shredded cabbage
1/4 cup sugar
1 cup shredded carrots
1/2 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. pepper
1/4 − 1/2 cup milk
Mix & Chill 15 minutes.
Meanwhile combine:
1/2 cup mayonnaise
1/2 tsp. celery seed
2−3 drops hot sauce
3 Tbsp. dry minced onion
1/4 − 1/2 cup buttermilk

Mix well with cabbage. Chill. Allow flavors to blend for
several hours before serving.

So if it's true, it just means Sam's Club Cola will taste less like RC and more like Coke.

True, there's no reference to cocaine anywhere in the recipe.

Hmmm.... might have to rethink Bendis Cola after all.

Good idea! New slogan idea:

I tried calling up the University of Sao Paulo to get their drams, but they just keep jabbering in Portuguese.
