I've never seen either of them and just picked up the Blu Ray. Which would you suggest for a first timer?

Whatever you choose, make sure you watch Hearts of Darkness: A Filmmaker's Apocalipse afterwards. It's amazing.

Theatrical was winning when I put in the disc.

I'm speechless. I can't believe I've never seen this. It truly is a masterpiece. I think it might be in my top ten of all time. It's perfect filmmaking.

I watched the theatrical cut for the first time on Netflix a couple weeks ago, and I agree, except for the half-assed ending.
